Okay this thread is about telling us what your job is about and off course show it off with pictures. Vader I expect pictures of hairy balls and saggy tits!

As some of you might now, we I work as an engineer at Mammoet. The word biggest transportation (vertical and horizontal) firm. One of the most prestigious project was the salvaging of the nuclear submarine Kursk.

My job is to plan stuff with regards to transport and cranes. We need to lift a piece of 18 tons, from point A to B. What crane should we use and what configuration is the cheapest. Each extra piece of counterweight requires and extra truck, this costs money, so we need to be as cheap as possible.

I also do transport, for example, how many axles do we need? If we put to little, the pressure will be too high, too many and it will be too expensive. So enough talk, picture time.

When I step out of the Underground or Subway for the Yank, I see this view

You can see Mammoet office from here. The salt shaker looking building next to the pedestal crane.

The walk from the underground

After a 10 minute walk we are finally at the entrance. The building is called "de Bolder" which means 'bollard' in Dutch. Bollards are used to fasten ships to a harbour or dock. De Bolder has an interesting story, it was build inside a hanger and then transported here in one piece.

Of course we have an hanger and lots of cranes, you can see few mobile cranes here

When walking inside de Bolder and going to the 3rd floor, we find the engineering department. It is a very open office, with lot's of people. The engineering department has two floor with around 80 people!

My desk, where I use two screens at the same motherfucking time. Why?! Because two screens are better than one. But the coolest thing about the office is the view

Sometimes it is empty, but usually we see cool stuff

You can see an intercombi at the foreground, behind that a MAN truck with ballast on it, so it can pull heavy loads.Behind it a truck that, I think, transports crane counterweight. I am not sure. Behind that you see a Spiering crane. Basically these are mobile tower cranes. And behind that is a normal hydraulic crane.

A floating sheerleg, or in other words, crane on a barge. This one is called Amsterdam. But enough of this small stuff, large stuff now please

What the fuck is this puny sail boat doing here. We live in the 21st century! Okay big things

A huge barge, with some of our equipment on it.

motherfucking cranes on a ship

The Norwegian Epic, the second largest cruise ship in the world. But the best for last

This is the largest module ever built in the Netherlands. It was build in a hanger until it could barely fit in there. Then it was moved outside on our SPMT's (Self Propelled Modular Transport). With the SPMT's it was driven on the barge (the same barge you saw in the earlier picture) and now it is on our dock. We are using two cranes to finish the build of this module. If you take a closer look

There is no branding on the module. The reason is simple, it is from BP. And you can imagine that they had enough media exposure for now.

And with this I am done. So what about you? What work do you do? What are your day to day activities? If you don't have a job, what are your aspirations? Pictures please!

Web Developer, or that's the idea anyway.  It's a very small business, so fulltime right now for developers it's just me and two others, while another is working an internship elsewhere and will be back in the fall.

I've taken over heading development, so I direct work and make sure projects actually get planned properly, code is written like crap, and that we're actually properly testing things.  Because of how few of us there are, there are also tasks related to system and network administration.

The majority of work is done in PHP and MySQL, and working on Linux development boxes.  So daily, it tends to be go in, go through email for anything pressing, if there is, get that done first.  Then move onto whatever projects there are and go from there.  Because I handle who gets what work, I'm part of meeting with clients, and the quoting process for projects, which sucks.

Not much in the way of pictures, but you can take a look at a few open source projects that I have running that are getting put into use, and you can freely sift through the code.

For an image, this is vim, which is what I see when coding:

Vim

So basically it's like what I do here, except for money.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile
