I loved the Sopranos and loved the ending to the Sopranos. Tony and his family (his real family not his mob family) are having dinner at a restaurant. The director has you expecting anyone of the people at the other tables, or somebody else to walk in and top him (or all of them). Could it happen? Of course, when you're in that business it could happen at any given moment. Does it happen? No, not on that particular evening and not in that particular restaurant. In fact nothing happens, the series just ends on a cliffhanger. It was the only way to end it IMO.
I liked the LOST finale a lot, great way to have a reunion with a court case.

Court case cast reunions just annoy me. I want the shows to out with a frigging bang, to gear up the tension for like 4 or 5 episodes.
Babylon 5 was good at this, the final 4 episodes of every season threw out some storyline bombs and things got more intense.

you must have a lot of time to kill
Lost's finale was awesome.
Buffy's was awesome too.
Firefly's finale "Serenity" made it to theaters, which was effing awesome!
Angel's finale was okay.
I didn't care for Dollhouse's finale "Epitaph One" and "Epitaph Two" at first, but it has grown on me now I own the Season 1 & 2 DVDs. That's mostly due to "Epitaph One" never being aired here. Thanks, Fox!
But I guess it's better than The Pretender's finale, which was an explicit everyone dies scenario.
Buffy's finale I really liked. The last couple seasons were hit or miss, but the ending scene for whatever reason just struck a chord with "What are you gonna do now?" and just showing a creeping smile on Buffy's face.
I hear people complain about the ending of Seinfeld, but I thought it was well done.
Now for anime,
Dragonball Z - I literally do not remember. I've seen every episode, but I completely forget. So I think that says enough.
Dragonball GT - Ditto.
Gantz - WTF? But fitting
Maburaho - Seriously, WTF? I enjoyed the show through to the end, but for the optimal finish, it should have stopped before Kazuki goes ghost.
But top honours goes to Azumanga Daioh. The last episode is my favourite in the series.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileI stopped watching X-Files after Mulder left.
The only end of series I have watched was the original The Office and Extras. I liked the endings of them both, nice and ambiguous. Only thing I did not like about Extras was that it was kind of like... that's it? I felt they could have done a third season, but I guess it was getting a bit color-by-numbers toward the end.

Dollhouse was a mess. I mean when it was good, it was GOOD and it was going somewhere and building. When it was episodic, pointless BS it was just pointless. The ending was good but it was very sudden.
I just watched the final episodes of the X-files, watched it like 10 years late and it really sucked. Some court case in a tiny room and then some black helicopters arrive and shoot rockets at Cancer man, sitting in a wheelchair. Mulder talks to dead ghosts of Krycek and Deep Throat.
Mulder and Scully escape but the end of the world invasion is still planned for 2012. Utterly lame ending.
It got me thinking about other series final episodes like the end of Seinfeld which was also a court case, just an excuse to bring back all the actors again for a reunion.
Then there are series like 24 and Stargate where they leave you with the impression that even though the series is ending, the characters are still out there somewhere, doing their thing for the good of mankind.
So what do you think about series finales? How do you like series to be ended? What ones can you remember and why were they good or bad?
