Definitely not the microphone (ok, well maybe when he's on that laptop). The connection gets worse as new people join, particularly in the case when we add someone in from Europe and spreading the connection across 3 continents.
It's going to be a relatively poor connection regardless, but I'm sure we can do better. I think the main thing is to make sure everyone who is behind a router properly port forwards for Skype.
Additionally, I would have done more in editing to make it more listenable, but Audacity kept crashing, and had just spent way too much time on it as it were.

Your editing this time around was the best yet. One option I have heard is where you have everyone record individually and then mix them back together (so they talk on Skype but record locally). This has high fidelity but if re-mixxed even slight off sounds even worse because it's like every one is ...reading....off....a.... script. But it is an option.
