I watched John Wick 4. A good conclusion to the series.

Indeed. I enjoyed recognizing the Paris locales.

TMNT mutant mayhem was really great. It's a different kind of turtles, one way more focused on the teen part and not as much as the ninja part. So that aspect of the story and lore didn't work for me as much but man is the movie a ton of fun.

As someone who grew up with the turtles I do want to go see it. Looks like a lot of fun.

Heh, I'm so out of touch with movies; I didn't know there was a new TMNT movie. LOL

I saw that it got pretty good reviews. Definitely sounds like they're taking apart the standard origins for a ton of characters and creating some new lore. That may irk me a bit, so I'll just wait for video.

I just watched Abigail. It's about a group of kidnappers who take a job and then find out the little 10-year-old ballerina they kidnapped is actually a vampire. The movie was awful. I know some people who enjoyed it, but I actually thought it was one of the worst movies I've seen in a while. Besides a ton of gaps in logic, The actors seemed to be in disagreement of what kind of movie they were in. Some were being super hammy and over the top and treating it like it was a cheesy bee movie. Others are trying to win an academy award. It does not mix well together.

The family and I went to see Inside Out 2 in theatre this weekend.  It's a pixar movie in which half of the movie takes part inside the protagonist's head, with different emotions being portrayed by different characters, as she gets a first taste of puberty.

The first movie was pretty great, this second one is...  messier?  Some of it is by design, as everything is a metaphor about how life gets more complex at a certain age.  I think that assuming the movie is only messier because of this, would be giving it too much credit.  There's double the amount of emotions this time round, so something had to give.  Still an enjoyable family movie, but not as good as the first.

I only watched a small part of the first one and found it thoroughly depressing.

I saw Maxxxine this weekend. It's the final installment of Ti West's X trilogy, or at least it is until he decides to make a fourth. Although, after this one, they're very well may not be a fourth. Sadly it was not very good.

Aesthetically, he absolutely nails the look he's going for, of a lower mid-budget early '80s horror or thriller movie. It has that same washed out. Look against the backdrop of La that so many of those movies had, and it more or less would have fit in well. Unfortunately, Maxine was just never an interesting character, and The story juggles more ideas than it can resolve or handle. So aside from a couple really good scenes, you're left with a movie that looks good, and has an odd fascination with Psycho, but overall not much else.

I just watched Captain America: Brave New World. It wasn't great, but not bad either. Just middle of the road Marvel. A lot of it felt disjointed. The rumors about lots of script changes and reshoots definitely seem to be true. But to their credit they did manage to put the pieces together for something that's decent enough.

Going to watch that myself and was really looking forward to seeing WWE wrestler Seth Rollins in it but unfortunately his stuff was cut out.

I heard about that. It really does feel like there was a giant subplot in the movie that got cut. Giancarlo Esposito's character, Sidewinder, always kind of feels like he's been thrust into the story when he shows up. I can't figure out if his story was meant to be bigger or if he was added to fix something that got cut out. Either way, I'm sure whatever that big subplot was, that's where Seth's footage was and why he doesn't show up.

+1

I just watched Alita Battle Angel on Netflix.  Not a 'new' movie per se, but it was new to me, so that counts.  Really liked the worldbuilding, very Euro Sci-fi, even if it is a bit heavy handed.  Reminded me of similar movies like the fifth Element and Valorian.  Anyhow, it's based off a manga and the main character, Alita is portrayed by a real life actor, but what you see is fully CGI.  The face is that of the actress, but slightyl nipped and tucked to appear more manga like while also about doubling the size of her eyes.  Neat trick, reminded me a lot of the movie Splice where something similar was done to widen the distance between the actress' eyes to make her look more alien.

What bugged me though is that it's basically half a movie.  It has a 2 hour runtime, but they don't actually make it to where they're supposed to be.  Once all the pieces are in place to go there, the credits roll.  Very strange.  A sequel or even sequels are in the works, although it doesn't appear that actual filming already started.  James Cameron seems to be involved in it all, and I suspect he's more than busy with other, bigger projects.

I think they were hoping it would be a bigger success and have sequels. I still own the manga series.
