Oh yeah, I've seen it. Well the second season anyway and loved it. Still haven't got around to seeing the rest yet. Psychoville was good too. Not on the level of TLOG, but still enjoyable. Only seen the first season, though. Cliffhanger.
Anyway The Goodies deserves far more credit than they get these days. It's on the level of Monty Python if you ask me, but is a far less fashionable style of comedy. GG I assume would hate it, though, as it contains slapstick and things that are funny. Also Bill Oddie>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Eric Idle when it comes to music. He can actually satirise songs properly rather than only write hideous musical style comedy songs. I still like Eric Idle's songs, they're funny, but they're musically boring.
TLOG people's (or one of them) masterpiece is Funland IMO, but I'll write something about that later. Maybe.
Thanks for the tip on Funland. I'd forgotten about it but I'll remedy that very soon. I think it was just Mark Gattis, the tall one, out of TLOG in that one. I heard many wonderful things about it and I look forward to reading what you write on it.
Yeah TLOG is most definitely worth watching in its entirety. It gets darker and more depraved with each subsequent season. The feature length film (reunion of sorts) is worth it as well though it's not as good as the series.
I don't know the Goodies well at all. More familiar with Bill Oddie's bird spotting daytime shows
Got started on a couple of other series as well but will write about them in separate posts
Thought I should start an off-topic thread where we can recommend and discuss comedy etc. What are you watching? Which are your favourites? Etc
I'm more familiar with UK shows so I'd be interested to learn more about US/AUS/Dutch? shows.
I recently started re-watching one of my all time favourite shows so I'll make it my first recommendation. None other than the awesome ... "The League of Gentlemen"
Truly dark, very leftfield, utterly wonderful comedy. I think most of you guys here would actually love it if you haven't all seen it already. Especially foolz though I'm sure he's seen it. Most of the guys who were involved in TLOG have more recently done Psychoville which some of you may have seen.
Anyway, the blurb for TLOG from Wikipedia:
The League of Gentlemen are a quartet of British dark comedy writers/performers, formed in 1995 by Jeremy Dyson, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith. The television programme for which they are best known, although officially labelled a sitcom, was initially more sketch-based, linked together by their common setting: the fictional village of Royston Vasey, set somewhere in the north of England. The show contains elements of horror. The first series aired on BBC Two in 1999, and follows the lives of dozens of the town's bizarre inhabitants, played by Gatiss, Pemberton and Shearsmith in a number of different guises and make-up. The television series was filmed mainly in Hadfield, but also features Glossop, Marsden, Mottram, Hope Valley (Derbyshire), and Todmorden.
The entire three seasons of the League of Gentlemen (6 episodes each season) is available on Netflix
