Here is the video to what I just described, the final run of Optimus Prime.
Now I remember why I love and hate this movie so much. Following the epic fight, Optimus lies on the operating table, his life force ebbing away. He dies.
You see Hasbro the toy company in their wisdom sought to bring out a new toy line, so this mass execution of autobots was the result. Get a new leader and team together. Sure some survive, Blaster, Bumblebee and Jazz, Perceptor but those are some of the crappy ones compared to Prime, Ironhide, Wheeljack, Prowl and Brawn, and more.
The Decepticon side doesn't fare much better. Megatron is reborn as Galvatron and his voice actor changes. Starscream is ripped apart and dies, Thundercracker, Skywarp. Dead and reborn. The Decepticon side fares better though, Soundwave and his tapes, the Constructicons, Astrotrain and Blitzwing the triple changers, a few more.
But if someone should go back and watch Transformers The Movie thinking that it represents Transformers, it doesn't. Even back in 1986 this is like Tab or new taste Coca Cola. This is like comparing the cast of Apollo Justice to Phoenix Wright 1.
The story isn't bad, Unicron is a planet sized transformer, destroyer of worlds. He wants the matrix that Prime had in his chassis as it holds the power to destroy him. A sad thing is that this movie is too serious, it lacks the humour of the series.
The music is a mixed bag too. They change composers, gone is the orchestra, in comes Rocky IV's Vince Dicola's synth music. Otherwise like Dvader said it can feel like a series of music videos. Rather playing a snippet that matches the on screen action this film plays an entire 5 minute track in sucession to another one.
The sad thing about this movie is that IF Megatron had remained as Megatron and Prime and the other cast members had been there rather than the new team, the movie would have been infinetely more enjoyable. In the end you are left with the feeling that nothing will be the same anymore. And that holds true as the series followed on directly from the movie.
Ugh, I just stumbled upon the website for the 2008 Transformers cartoon:
http://www.transformersanimated.com/transformers-characters.php
Look at what they have done to the design of the characters. This is what modern day cartoons are. Horrible, stylistically bland.
TRANSFORMERS THE MOVIE: 2?
If you watched the transformers movie back in 1986 and thought that that was it, you would be wrong. Series 3 of Transformers generation one begins with a five part story directly following on from the movie. Five episodes is roughly 1hr 50 minutes. Movie length in itself.
At the end of the movie, Unicron is decimated and his head is left as a satellite, orbiting Cybertron. The Autobots have reclaimed Cybertron as their home and Galvatron is lost in space somewhere. The Decepticons are living on the planet Char, leaderless and in disarray, they fight over scraps of energon (energy) to feed themselves.
Galvatron's second in command Cyclonus and the Swoops land on Char admist the chaos. He tells the Decepticons how pathetic they are and goes off to Unicrons head. Using the on board computer they track down Galvatron on a lava planet. The lava rejevunates the big G and he goes back to Char.
Meanwhile at the first Intergalactic Olympics, several autobots are kidnapped by strange creature/robots....

Foolz said:Wow, and I thought Transformers was lame to begin with!
*etchs Foolz name in blood on the blacklist*
Foolz said:Hey, I'm actually basing that on cartoons I've seen more recently, like a few years ago. They're in the old style, but they could well be newer ones that suck. However you can blacklist me for not seeing the older ones if that's the case.
If your Transformers cartoons aren't from 1985/6 seasons 1 and 2 of Transformers, they aint proper Transformers.

GG Beast Wars starts crappy, but midway it becomes freaking awesome. Must watch! Many references to the original series in the second half of it! Transformers Energon and Armada are meh, although StarScream is a noble warrior in Armada, WTF?! Where is my favorite backstabber?!
In short Transformers Generation 1,2 and Beast Wars are it, the rest is crap!
Foolz said:Yessir. It was hideously ugly too.
Thought so. I remember seeing 5 minutes and thinking WTF?
Just bought this:
Complete series 1.
10 discs of classic cartoonage. I used to watch this as a kid but barely remember any of it so I'm worried. One cool thing is that J.Michael Strazynski wrote a lot of it and he worked on the Real Ghostbusters and my favourite TV show of all time: Babylon 5.
Just ordered this, 14 discs
Did you guys know that when they finally ressurected Optimus Prime in series 4 and then ended the series, the Japanese continued the series with Prime still alive? It was called Transformers Takara, Headmasters.
See page 2 of this thread for info.
If I'm right, DarthHomer has found the fucking megatonof awesome.
Direct Your Browsers to the Orange Splat.
While not as complete as it should be, the site allows you to watch various classic Nicktoons - upto their fourth season. I don't know why that is, but hey, it's better than nothing.
You'll need the DivX webplayer, or whatever plays DivX files on webpages for you. The selection is also quite nice, even if there's some bad stuff on there (CATDOG WAS NEVER GOOD). And with the right tools, you can rip the files from the webpage, save them as AVI's and watch them on the go...or on your PS3/DVD Player...
