There's no need to try and start the Christmas hype even earlier than normal!

Does Tokyo Godfathers count as a Christmas film? Nyaa

Every year at the Savoy hotel london they do a Christmas version of the Rat Pack stage show. I went to see it a few years ago with my bro, it had different performers than this video and the stage was much better and more Christmas-y.

Now believe it or not Kelsey Grammer in The Christmas Carol is actually a fun, entertaining movie for the holidays.

It features music from Alan Menken who did the music for many famous Disney films like Beauty and the Beast.

This is a clip near the end.

Another clip

Because I'm an idiot, I don't observe holidays or birthdays, except for Memorial Day, ANZAC Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day (which is more of a wake these days then a celebration) and Australia Day.  These can be meaningful days of reflection.

Christmas etc... none of those ring my bell.  As a child I was exposed to these holidays until I left home, but there is nothing there I'd want to re-visit.

But hey, everyone else, Merry Christmas and what what!

merry xmas

It starts on Christmas Eve, right? Close enough surely!

Australia day should not even exist! Certainly not with how it's perceived today. :X ANZAC day is a travesty now. Media blackout is a must. How quickly it went from a day of rememberance to a patriotic media masturbation fest where teenagers walk the Kakoda trail and have epiphinies, and others go to gallipoli to cry en masse, meanwhile veterans are unable to march with their family; run over by trucks etc..

The societal desecration of certain holidays does not have to impinge on my abiilty to observe them.  That would be letting them win.

My Grandfather was a veteran. He saw things that haunted him to his dying day and was sworn to secrecy about these things. You could tell just by looking at him there was something he needed to say, to tell the world before he went, but just couldn't. He also was in a lot of physical pain; all up and down his spine he had herniated disks and was constantly in and out of the hospital and in traction. He was haunted, he was hurting, but one thing was always true about him: He LOVED Christmas! When the season came around he would decorate his home, put up an incredible (real) tree and always have a roaring fire going in the fireplace. When he would hear the Little Drummer Boy song, all his ailments and bad memories would melt away and he would be at peace. He would sing along to the Bing Crosby part. I would just sit and listen, wishing he could be like that all the year through. He died in December of 1992. He had Cancer that destroyed his brain and his Lungs, but even when he could no longer speak and we thought he no longer understood what was going on around him, we would play this song for him, and you could see in his eyes it still brought him peace. Every Christmas I listen to this song and I still hear his voice inside my head. I miss him terribly, but now this song brings a sense of peace to me too.

How is this depressing?

It's my personal philosophy that people can find a million and one things to make them sad or depressed --BUT-- when you find those rare, precious, few things that actually make you happy or bring you peace, you cherish those things for a lifetime. Maybe it's a song, maybe it's a memory, maybe it's a movie, maybe it's a Website designed by a guy with a brilliant mind filled with good hearted people that share many of the same interests you do.

Something as simple as a Christmas song brought peace to a man who's life was filled with torment. That's almost magical. Every Christmas when I miss him the most, I hear this song, I hear his voice inside my head as if he was standing right next to me and I know he'll always be with me, even after he's long gone.

This is a good thing and a HAPPY feeling.
