Oh yeah and you know that old game Descent? It allowed you true 3-D movement in a first person view?

Well this can be like that, but better. Crawling up a wall at all sorts of odd angles is a thing to behold, in so many games you are stuck on a level plane, this is different and good.

Okay until you get to the scorpian I wasn't feeling it. Truth be told I was even thinking of ebaying it straight after I completed it.

Then I hit the scorpian sections. There is far less waggle and the character movement is slower and heavier. It roots you where the spider felt floaty and the slower speed has an immediate effect: the frame rate is perfect. The waffling spider controls are suddenly more traditional button presses and actually cool QTEs that are 100% accurate.

The visuals have taken a noticable step up, artistically this can look gorgeous, as I said before the detail in character models couldn't be better and the animation too, it's eerily lifelike.

The environments start to really resemble in atmosphere and feel: Metroid Prime. And that is a very good thing. You start passing things which are either genuinely scary (walking through a hive) or bizarrely alien like skeletons. I faced off with some big bosses, the lizard gecko thing was epic.

I think if there is a bird boss it will freak me out as I hate the flapping wings.

Game is getting genuinely good. It's mostly just walking through and experiencing the creepy environments and then some satisfying battles in between, but it's worth it for the experience.

Whoever gives this game 4/10 or 6/10 or whatever must be an idiot who didn't even bother changing the gesture sensitivity. I'm quite impressed so far and looking forward to what else they come up with.

Just played some more this morning. This time on an HDTV. It's one of the few Wii games that comes out relatively unscathed by the upscaling process. The art shines through. I'd say the texture detail goes down a notch but mostly it does very well on an HD set.

I will say that the game is rather shallow, you basically wander about these atmospheric levels, almost like an insect Endless Ocean and then occasionally get into some visceral fights. So there's not much to it there. But its just very well done and a completely new situation and environment, almost like one of those games that is more of an experience then anything else.

I'm not far enough into to make that asertion either way. It's just started backtracking now through a couple of environments only navigating in different ways, very much like Metroid. You get more moves as well so the combat initially seems shallow but is actually quite deep.

If you're in the market for something unique, tense and different, its worth it. It's not a AAA stonker that has you OMG at every turn though. This is a cult game. Surprisingly absorbing though I find. One of the games greatest strengths is the camera, the way you can walk up walls and upside down on ceilings is very cool and it makes you feel like one of these creatures. You have no motivation, there is no real story, your whole life is a mindless story of survival. You feel that the environment is layered with danger and you just want to survive. It's a great feeling that they managed to capture.

I'll go ahead and add my two cents.  I had been looking forward to this game for ages and pretty much ate up all previews and developer interviews that came out.  So did it live up to my expectations?  Yeah, more or less.  Overall it was a great experience, though I'm not sure I'd call it a great game. If I look at it as just another game it was too short, lacks replay value, suffered from a few camera issues, and had just a terrible ending.

That all being said, I don't regret playing it for a moment. It was such a different experience that it'll go on my "Win" column for no other reason that it was so remarkably original that I couldn't help but enjoy it. Whenever someone starts up with the "games as art" argument I usually roll my eyes and just shut my mouth, but with Deadly Creatures makes one of the strongest cases for it that I've ever encountered.

Adventuring as the tarantula and scorpion and experiencing the world through their eyes in an area that's probably no bigger than my front yard really was something else. Add in the scorpion's combat, the back story of Billy Bob Thorton and Dennis Hopper, and the Tarantula's final boss battle (which despite being brief is damn near legendary) and you've got the makings for a game that I'd recommend to all. The developers tried something truly different and for the most part pulled it off. Got to respect that in a day and age where the biggest games all have IV's and V's after them, if not XIII.

So I do heartily recommend to at least rent the game.  It's not for everyone.  The story is very sparse.  It's just about survival.  Even the background story of the two criminals is pretty light.  In fact, you have to watch Dennis Hopper's interview in the bonus section to figure out exactly who they are and what they're doing.  But if you're one of those people who like original ideas this is for you.  Normally I sell my games after I play them, if they don't offer a lot of replay value and this would be a candidate for sale in most cases.  But it's still so cool and different that I'm keeping it just to show off to other people.  It's that kind of game, if you catch my drift.

What took you so long to come over? I invited Joyer from GAF too, the band is coming back together, piece by piece.

Your impressions, I cant seem to hear most of the story like Leo said, the voices are muffled. I'm completely with you on the experience part, the atmosphere, tension and originality are very well done. It can feel sparse at times and one track, but on the other hand that feels focused too.

As far as the muffled voices, I don't know how far you are into the game but after the first couple chapters the voices are much easier to hear, and the gameplay pauses so that you can hear and sometimes see exactly what's going on.  It's a shame though because those earlier bits of audio are pretty damned funny:  

"Is this valuable?"

"It's quartz."

"Yeah, but it's a crystal. . . like on that Home Shopping Network?"

Towards the last few chapters the voicework is actually replayed so that you hear it from both creatures perspectives.  And if it sounds muffled in one chapter, you'll hear it again much more clearly in the following chapter.

What the hey? Missed the memo? I did quite a few blogs. Aspro started regularly posting here recently and Mantorok was here for a while but mainly sticks to GAF.

I was looking for a subtitle option, does it exist? One of the things I was initially disappointed in DC was that it started me repeating the first environment. But then you do it in a completely different way, metroid style with the web slinging. Something makes me want this game to be completely set in human environments though, like an apartment building, going into and out of apartments. Crawling about inside fridges, bath tubs, bedding, floorboards etc. I haven't got to the man made sections yet in this game.
