As for rollers, I'm glad they've been nerfed because they've also been made much more deadly, with the option to throw a narrow spray of ink for as far as most guns shoot, while rollers are one hit kill.

Unfortunately that's just not true. It takes a lot of skill to land a blow and it's far and away from a one hit kill, maybe if you are close. But getting close enough to kill a machine gun user when you are rolling too far away and they spot you... good luck with that. And Carbon rollers narrow spray you can throw 3 or 4 times for a single kill. So it's practically useless there. Everything now is just geared towards machine gun users, constantly.

Nerf eveything else and just be left with matches where they dominate.

By machine guns, do you mean your standard guns or the splatlings?

Standard guns. Anyone that can run and gun.

I don't know, I've been on the receiving end of some spectacular roller plays.  Rollers have always been weaker than guns when in direct confrontation.  It's their superior coverage and the ability to ambush others that sets them apart.  If rollers were as powerfull as guns, why bother with guns at all?

I am awesome with the roller in splat zones, first place most every match. Guns suck in the ranked matches. Brushes, rollers, sloshers all day.

Those dualie squelchers are insane.  The range...  The RANGE!  you can cover a whole area fast without having to move a foot/tentacle.  But they are puny in combat.  If anyone gets near you, you're done for.

I'm still enjoying the .52Gal.  The new sub and special mean I probably won't be scoring high with it like I did in the original, but it's still fun averaging above 10 kills per game.  laugh

I did have a few awesome matches recentely, using the NZap, I got 9 kills while my team was nowhere near me. I also had a couple of awesome ranked Splatzone battles with the gattling. So good, because everyone is concentrated in a small area and I can pick them off in droves.

So have I.

In Splaoon 1. Haven't seen anyone half decent with the roller in S2

Rollers don't have superior coverage though, machine guns outclass it easily. You can also ambush people using any other weapon too.

"If rollers were as powerfull as guns, why bother with guns at all?" so if guns are more powerful than rollers, why bother will rollers at all? That's the point, turf wars isn't balanced anymore to other weapons, it's just tentamissile spamming and machine guns all day long.

Exactly, why bother with rollers at all?  Filty roller players.  cheeky

And yeah, the NZap is pretty good as well.  It's about as good as splatting people as the .52Gal, which I found rather surprising.

NZap is actually  better than the 52 gal. Better range and fire rate, accuracy and ink coverage.

In Splatoon 1 which I still played up to the day SPlatoon 2 launched, the 52 gal community dwindled to nothing. No one uses it anymore it's like a white whale that pops up once every week for one match.

LALALALALALALALALALAAAAA  I'M NOT HEARING YOU!

I don't care for your cold numbers, no weapon feels as good to use as the .52Gal.  That rythmic 'plop plop plop' as you shoot your ink, your own personal themesong as you splat opponent after opponent...  It'll beat most other weapons in direct confrontation, that's why I was surprised to facing defeat at the hands of an NZap.

Ordered something like this yesterday. Should solve the problem of playing with motion controls without having the screen move about  - and still having the screen close to my face off screen or in bed. Should be awesome, especially playing in bed.

You know what's really messed up? Splattershot > NZap in a direct confrontation. And the Splash-o-matics beat anything else close range.

Oh yeah one more thing. They nerfed the Stealth Swim perk. You are so slow now compared to S1 when using it. So slow that upon respawning I was getting really frustrated as it took forever to get back to the front lines.

I've taken to using the perk as well, despite having never used it in the original?  I don't mind the swim speed.  You just need to stop getting splatted.  Nyaa

I have on big gripe with splatoon2 though, and that is that the game really suffers from not having the map visible at all times.  I just don't open up the map as often as I would have glanced at it in the original, leaving me unawares of my surroundings.  It's much more common for me to be dominating one portion of the map, only to see in the results screen that some huge part had been taken over by the opposing team elsewhere without me noticing.  I'll typically only look at the map screen while respawning.

You have to read the article I put up about the online. Iran peer to peer, it's slower than splatoon 1. It's why heavy weapons are way better to use online.

Yeah me too. Sometimes I dominate my section of the map, then at the end my part is like the only bit we actually won in. But the map is so big and there is so much verticality to them now too, you often can't even see if you are being wiped out in other areas.

What's the definition of a heavy weapon? I read the thread on GAF earlier but I honestly haven't had a single lag related death in S2 compared to S1 and it has rarely if ever paired me against asshole Japanese. It may be because I bought a usb lan adapter. I do have some occasions where I run towards someone, we both have the same weapon and somehow I end up dying and he doesn't.

I did have a bit where I shot someone and could hear my shots hitting them 3 times with an aerospray and they didn't die, they hit me later and I insta-died. That could have been lag, or might just be because the aerospray wasn't powerful enough.

The game runs 30% slower than Splatoon 1, meaning the metagame is going to be heavily skewed to favour high damage, low time-to-kill weapons

Er, by definition high power weapons do take less time to kill, that is the point of them. But speaking as someone who uses one of the most powerful weapons often, you have no advantage because of weapon limitations such as charge time, run speed and the maps themselves.

It just sucks the small amount of weapons that made it to the new game unchanged (or even buffed) are now dominating the meta. It's hard to come up with an excuse to use a lot of this game's more unique weapons now when splattershots just do a better job at filling their old roles while offering higher versatility.

--------------------------

Boom, there it is. Validation.

I played tons of Splatoon 1 with an Aerospray or other machine gun. Then when I started changing and experimenting the other weapons could be a ton of fun to use and extended the longevity of the game - gatlings became my main weapon, carbon rollers too. I would even use Sloshers too if it wasn't so tiresome pounding that splash button repeatedly.

OMG I tested the inkmines. They nerfed the inkmines massively.

So now you can use two instead of one yay! But now each mine explosion isn't a kill, not even a direct hit. 1 mine exploding does exactly 35/100 damage.

Do the math, even two direct ink mine hits wont kill someone. It will take just over 3 mines directly hitting to kill 1 person.

Not only that, they now explode when covered with enemy ink. Think about this, when you run around in the game you only go onto your own ink. If you see enemy ink you shoot at it before running over it. So any mine you use is useless unless someone accidently BACKS into one and then it will only do 35/100 damage. indecision Seriously they are just fucking with me now.

On the plus side, I worked out a few gatling strategies on Inkblot Art Academy and Starfish Mainstage with sucess. I was popping fools from a distance, dominating the middle section then the corners when making a comeback. laugh I'm back baby.
