I didn't even know that about the first game. I got a crusty ticket in Hero mode.
SupremeAC said:Wow, was on fire this evening. Won nearly all my games, dominated every match with 10+ kills and most turf inked by far!
As for ability chunks, one way to get them is to 'scrub' the abilities from your gear. Scrubbing is coslty though and you'll get chunks according to what abilities you deleted. Which is kind of pants, to be honest.
What weapon did you use?
Ability scrubbing could be useful as you can scrub gear you never use and use the ability chunks to power gear you will use.
Last night was great! I got to play with Leo, for some reason it kept putting me in the other team which I felt bad cause I was the best in most those matches and won.
I am getting better at learning how to stay alive and control areas which is necessary in ranked mode. Ranked mode still has stupidly crazy swings, we dominated a match for the entire match, but couldn't get the tower at the end. I had 30 kills! In the last 30 seconds they took over and rode all the way to victory.

I was using the splat duellies or whatever they're called. Their range is only so-so, but I don't need good range for my playstyle. The special is the firecracker thing, which is one of the best specials in my opinion. You can use it to cover turf you can't reach, disrupt the play of your opponent, even flush them out of hiding. And for as long as it takes for all the missiles to hit, your targeted opponent will be marked and thus unable to hide from you. It's just so much more versatile than the other specials.

I didn't realise it marked your opponents. I feel that special is cheap, as you can auto target people you can't even see. It's just a big win button. Cheap as hell. I prefer multiple sliding bombs.

Psssh, multiple sliding bombs are so cheap. You just spam them all over the place in hopes of hitting anything. About as fresh as last weeks catch.
Seriously though, you hardly ever kill anyone with the missiles as you get a warning you've been targetted, and another warning of where each individual missile will hit. It's the same as with the original's Killer Wail. I use it more as a disruptive force to get a tactical advantage than as a means of truely splatting opponents.
Reached level 14 today, finally unlocking my .52Gal.
... And boy, did it get nerfed. Why did you have to do this Nintendo? Nobody was using it, clearly it wasn't OP?
Anyhow, I think they decreased your walking speed. You're basically a tank now, so slow. As for the Sub weapon, I used to be able to whip out an ink screen. Now? A useless Point sensor. I guess the special is ok, exploding hamster ball. Still, that doesn't fit with my play style at all. I guess I'll try it out for a while, see if it sticks, but if not it'll be back to the duellies for me. Maybe, one day, when they release the .52Gal Deco as a free extra weapon, I will regain my splat wall. There is still hope.

yes it means you and 1 buddy always in the same team. I'm not level 10 yet and then you have to play ranked to B- I think?

I'll be on in about an hour, max 2.
Dvader said:Why was everyone so good at salmon run the first day and now everyone sucks?!
I think you hit an anomaly there. No one has ever been good at salmon run.

Those tentamissiles also cover about as much space as an inkstrike that also acts like homing missiles. Boosts your turf wars score as much as the inkstrike did, about 300 points. They take no skill or timing to use though #unfair.

Yeah they nerfed a few of my favorites. I still have my Splatoon 1 tests so I can compare the 52 for you.
I had a torrid time at the weekend in some Splatoon matches.
I think they have messed up the game balance here. For instance some weapons give you a bubble shield because the weapon has some serious deficiencies like a long charge time. Now it's gone and you are helpless up close. Then they have messed up the bombs by getting rid of seekers. You used to have a rocket launcher and seeker with a silver Aerospray which allowed you to play aggressively and push forward, but also escape quickly. Now you have no seeker, and the special instead of being used tactically (like using the rocket launcher to ink up tall walls) it's just a grenade spam. Then they nerfed up the carbon roller really badly. It's not just the nerfing, but also the sub and special choices made here. The Carbon roller has an ink cloud as a special which is completely useless, kills maybe one person over 5 different matches if you are lucky. Then it no longer has seekers so you cannot push forward. And even if you did, they way the nerfed the carbon roller itself is horrible.
Firstly it has this two second run up where you are really slow - repeat that same two seconds multiple times over a match and you are a sitting duck. Then it actually slows down when you make turns now.
Then his tentamissile spam has to end. It's serious shit. Takes no skill to aim, players can hit anyone. It also inks as much as an inkstrike but now it homes in on you forcing you to move, revealing your position and forcing you into the shit. If you have two or more players with Tentamissiles on the opposing team it's just Tentamissle spam endlessly.
Then again, some specials in the first game like the Krakken weren't just for cheap kills, as a roller user it allowed you to escape danger quickly. Now with the normal roller you are at a disadvantage against machine gun users. Also the rollers have been changed, you no longer have a wide throwing arc, instead this thin corridor so you have to be super accurate while the machine guns all remain unchanged and un-nerfed.
It just feels like they have unhinged the game balance so the only way you get any traction is by using machine guns with lots of ink spray. The stages too are too large, so again it favours machine guns. You cannot bottleneck like you could in Splatoon 1 and establish fortified postions.
Then there is handheld player or even tabletop. It just feels less than ideal. Yes it's great you can play anywhere now, but having the screen move when you are playing it handheld and dealing with reflections and viewing angles as well as retricted hand movements, it always feels not quite right.
Detach the joycons and great, nice motion, but now the screen is too far away - I need some tablet mount so I can put it in front of my face to play. Even playing on the TV, the joycons for this game are not 100% satisfactory to me. The buttons are too close, the right stick is at an awkward angle. I would get a Pro controller if the price wasn't a total rip off but even then I don't like playing with my hands pinched into the middle traditional style.
You're just being a sour octopussy.
I'm glad they got rid of the Kraken. Sure, you might have used it as an escape, but most used it agressively and it was very over powered and annoying. I feel that you can now outrun any special, they're much less gamechanging than they were in the original, which I approve of.
I agree on the stages being much larger and that it's harder to take controll of bottlenecks. There are however still places you can hole up in and disrupt the game of your opponents. As for rollers, I'm glad they've been nerfed because they've also been made much more deadly, with the option to throw a narrow spray of ink for as far as most guns shoot, while rollers are one hit kill.
