Picked up a copy not too long ago. Really digging it, but hate the fact that there's too much of an emphasis on Sonic.
Though I'm curious about something, and it's Sonic CD related (kinda). You can get the Palmtree Panic song as one of the unlocks, but is it the same version all over the world, or did they specify it? My version (Australian/European) has the EU/JP soundtrack, but does the US version have the American one?
I'm one of the four people from the US that actually has Sonic CD, so given the limited ownership of the game I don't think they would have bothered including the US one for the US version.
This game sounds good, so I'll pick it up when it goes down in price (since I'm not a big fan of the Kart sub-set) and confirm this then. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer before then.

I own it. Vader is most likely owns it. So who's the fourth?

Yeah, hopefully if they release more tracks as DLC, that they'll have more themes on other Sega games.

I had it!
Does that count?

I got mine used -- it's probably your old copy.
I got to admit, the game isn't bad. Mario Kart has it beat (and in a few areas Excitebots does too), but Sonic Racing is a fun game. We rented it for the kids this weekend and I had hard time putting it down.
I'll give more details later, but I am enjoying it far more than I expected to.

I HAD Excitebots. But the lack of a real online community killed my interest in it.
After spending some more time with it, I'm going to known Sonic Racing down from a "buy at a discount price" to "worth a rental, but not much more." There's a lot of good here, but a lot of bad too.
The Good
-
Really good looking and detailed race tracks
-
Great cast of racers from a lot of fun Sega games (that no longer exist or went straight to hell)
-
The racers have more personality and their own unique "All-star moves"
-
Good controls
The Bad
-
Inconsistant frame rates. Slowdown gets horrible on some tracks.
-
Repeitive levels. They only use for 5 or 6 games as inspiration for the tracks. Even though there are many different race tracks, many of them end of looking near identical.
-
Many poorly designed race tracks. A lot of levels have turns that literally seem to come out of nowhere, and there are several places where your kart can actually get stuck.
-
Worst play by play announcers any game has ever had.
Here's the deal. I want this, because Sumo Digital did it and I enjoyed their Outrun 2/ Outrun 2006 games (though I found them a bit difficult).
But I don't really play Kart games. I've played my N64 and GC Kart games very minimally. I liked the SNES version and DS versions but I feel like I've dumped enough money into this genre for little in return.
Why? 'Cause it always seems like I win or lose unfairly. I don't feel like I'm developing a skill, that the results are mostly random.

They did a pretty good job of keeping things fair in this game and eliminating the ability to get a victory stolen from you at the last minute. The game changer items (like Mario Kart's blue shells and bullet bills) are more likely to come out earlier in the race from what I've noticed. If you're in last place on the third lap, you're probably going to end up there. Additionally, even if you're in first place you're not just limited to a few weak items. While in top 3 contention I got the All Star item (the game's best item that allows you to dramatically speed up and knock down those in front of you).
Than get the PS3 one! Problem solved!
