The skill ceiling isn't that serious. The gameplay is relatively simple and can be offset when you play with people you know. Now in my case I'm actually willing to have my consoles near and around my PC for skype chats, and i have cats that will do that. But the real rude awakening level 1s will get is "wow i have shitty gear in comparison to people who played this longer than me". Which I think cats on here can work around and accept those Ls.
gear shmear. Gear doesn't give you such a great edge as you would hope. Your level is only an indication of how invested you are in the game, not your skill. The biggest differenciator will be who knows the stages best. even now I am still discovering new ways to use parts of the stages to my advantage. It's stuff like this that will pose a disadvantage to thos who are new
Learning a map is not that difficult in the context of what game modes they are since a lot of these aren't all that complicated from a design standpoint. Majority of them are symmetrical and built around the concept of "lanes", so other than the basic "learning the game" which be real, is any other mp shooter in the last ...fuck just mp shooter, any video game of the last whatever where is this rude awakening that is going to be a steep climb? It's not exactly Tribes or Counterstrike where someone is walking into a walled garden here.
The gear is a much larger difference maker (and obvious balance disadvantage) because some guy with +4 damage ups has major advantages if you try to gun v gun with them. Ditto for whatever speed advantage they have and the arsenal of weapons that may or may not fit the players style that they won't unlock till later. As much as the game has some cool and clever mechanics, it has all the trappings and annoyances of modern shooters. Where to mitigate the better players from getting out of hand they added perks and buffs that are built around well killing some time as opposed to just making the game about the mechanics and lets see how good you are, the end.
Besides given how many terrible people teammates you can get during peak hours (I had 1200 points in turf war and lost..and i was 2nd place on my team) Towers will be fine.
I wasn't talking about any 'rude awakening'. I was merely stating that someone who is an experienced gamer as we all are here will be at a disadvantage mostly because they have to learn the levels, while disagreeing with you about how important gear is. The gear lets you customize yourself to suit your playstyle. What good will +4 damage do you when someone approaches you from behind and splats you in 3 hits? And that's the crux of the matter. Combat in Splatoon is a close quarters affair, where you're just as likely to die because someone ran up to you from an angle you couldn't see, as you are from an actual head-on confrontation. You can't speck yourself to be prepared for such instances. However, I do agree that you should change your gear depending on what game mode you're playing. It makes a difference, but not to such a degree that gear can make a lesser player outperform a better one.
Also, on the topic of the trapping sof modern shooters, a big differentiatior for me is the fact that you can see the 'bullets'. Because this is so, you have a much better chance of surviving an attack, especially when coupled to being able to make a quick retreat through your own ink. The fact that the bullets don't follow a straight trajecotry and only have a limited range also changes things up a lot. The game is less about having a perfect steady aim, and more akin to shooting from the hip.
Good times last night with this. Vader and I did fairly well and then were joined by two others for four man chaos. Foolz, I want to see your flying skills.

I finally got good at the game. Great games.
I hate getting shitty teammates on the PS4, I've been playing primarily on PC so ranked play wise I got that shit up into the 300s so I get reasonable teammates, but on PS4 I had to play with people who literally just drive into the ball like they don't got a care in the fucking world. Shit is annoying. Pick your spots.
Game night again tonight, fellas? I'd like to say let's start at nine, but realistically, it'll be 9:30 or 10.

Don't you realise that Donald Trump will be on the debates tonight?

Just because I can fly doesn't mean I'm good at it. Though when we played I think I scored one goal from a flying flip...
I played it with Foolz for the first time. I had to figure out the controls as I played, but I didn't do too terribly.

I am well over the 350 hour mark. So far I have reached Gold I rank in both 3v3 solo and team categories. This became my go-to game for small bursts whenever I have a few moments to spare...which slowly creep up to proper hour long sessions. This is, without a doubt, my personal favorite game of 2015.
There's new DLC coming too!

I really need to play some more of it before I get too far into my GOTY thoughts.
You guys are going to be too late. People are capping out at level 20 - the top already. I'm 18.
I fear the inexperienced will get a rude introduction to multiplayer but the bubble shield will help.
