Screw you! I'm on a tablet with some sort of profanity autocorrect that also has a 5 minute delay.

So is it wrong to not want a game in a certain genre to be your GOTY. I am an action/adventure fan first and foremost, I enjoy games of many genres but most of the time I get excited for the A/A game. Fighting games are pretty low on my list of favorite genres though I have loved a few of those games, but I wont put any fighters in my top 20 favorite games probably just cause as I said before genre bias. So Smash is more than likely the best game I have played this year, its pure joy, so expertly made, its fantastic. And even though I love playing it, if you gave me a choice now having played the games that I can only keep the memory of playing one game, Smash or say Dragon Age, I would still pick DA even though that game has more issues. Same with Dark Souls or Bayonetta 2 over smash. I might not think they are better games but I prefer to play them.
So thats my dilemma right now trying to figure out GOTY for me, I don't want it to be Smash but I feel like no other game has really earned it. Most years it is easy for me, at most there are maybe two games I need to choose between but never really more than that.
Screw it I'll give it to Destiny.
I kind of agree. Smash is like a love letter to Nintendo fans, great and all but I guss I'm looking for a game that has a clear cut ending, a goal to reach.
I don't mind giving fighting games a GOTY award, though I'll admit it can see why it's a struggle for some. But when I go back and look at what games I play with years after they're released there's always a fighting game or two that stick with me. I can still boot up SSF4 and have a blast with it. Smash is probably going to be my number 2 on the year. Depends on how I feel about Captain Toad.
Captain Toad is definitely in the top two. I can't keep my son away long enough to finish. The levels are sheer brilliance though!
This is where it starts to get tough!

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PS4
Kirby Triple Deluxe 3DS
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition PS4
Destiny PS4 -- By the time the Dark Below came out, I decided I just didn't care enough about the game world to play on... Shame, had such potential. Bring a bunch of friends or don't bother!
Mario Kart 8 Wii U
Hyrule Warriors Wii U
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor PS4
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call 3DS -- Such memories! Incredible soundtrack, but ultimately there's not much game in there, despite the new Quest mode...
Samurai Warriors 4 PS4 -- Although technically this is a "better" game than Hyrule Warriors, it doesn't have the immense fan-service of the Zelda series. Only one can stay!
Bayonetta 2 Wii U
Dragon Age: Inquisition PS4
Grand Theft Auto V PS4 -- I'll probably never have a GTA in my top-ten favorites. Funny how Red Dead took number one once though...
Far Cry 4 PS4 -- Significantly less douchey, but not gonna be in my top-ten.
Super Smash Bros. Wii U
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth 3DS
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Wii U
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth PS4
Rogue Legacy PS4
Transistor PS4
Mercenary Kings PS4
Don't Starve: Console Edition PS4
Divinity Original Sin PC -- Like Vader's fighting quandry, I feel the same way about PC games. This is an incredible game, don't get me wrong, but I'm a console gamer at heart!
Shovel Knight 3DS

Go ahead and toss out Mercenary Kings (because I never heard of it and therefore it can't be good).
Whhhhaaaaattttt...?! It's like Metal Slug meets Monster Hunter!?
How can anyone NOT love this game!?!
I mean just LOOK at it!! Hell, I'd give it GOTY just for it's fake box art!!
A full one-third of my list is comprised of "indie" "low budget" "kickstarter" "pixelated" games made by non-AAA teams.
Those versus Nintendo, BioWare, Atlus, Platinum and Square... Wow!

...but the sad thing is: I've barely spent a few scant hours with these games. I do love them, but they are best saved as games you play on rainy days! ...or snowy, depending on this winter!
Look how long they lasted on the last versus som REAL heavy-hitters though! It was genuinely tough taking them off!
Getting there!

I was/am curious about Transistor. I loved Bastion, and wondered if they could make lightning strike twice. I have my doubts, but I'll see when I finally get the PS4.
I love the style. The gameplay is very unique too. It can play as an action game or thought-out strategy game if you wish, too. Tons of various weapon load-outs, like Bastion, but you can use weapons to modify other weapons and make them behave differently. It's a very cool system and I cannot wait to actually sit down and spend some time with the game!
I also plan on re-purchasing Bastion on the PS4 too...
It's going to be in the conversation and I would have bought it by now, but I have no prior experience with the source material, and as a rule dislike toilet humour, which I have gotten the impression is a central tenet of SP.
