So this is happening, people on gaf who are watching streams of playing it have confirmed a GIGANTIC LIGHTING DOWNGRADE. It seems the game has removed all dynamic lighting from the console versions. Yes the same versions that played just fine during the beta and in demos, something happened with the final release.
If only one of us had the game so they could talk about it......
Here is the comparison shots from the demo version and the retail version, demo on top.
HOLY SHIT
Look at this
YIKES. Who knew lighting adds so much, it looks like a different game.
PS3 version, January 2014
From 3:49 to 5:08 (no spoilers)

^Jesus, glad I haven't followed the hype for this at all. That's ridiculous. And I thought what I played look really good, too.
Well seems its a false alarm. You have to use a torch.
From gaf:
maybe they want us tu use the torch lightning system, lightning a torch in a room completely changes the lightning from bland and lifeless to yellow bright light and if you die the torch stays on. I made some shots.
without torch
with torch
this torch stays on forever
same here
Who knew that using a light source like a torrch would make things light up?!
I still need to play Dark Souls.....well, I started it but I'm like 5% in. I have the Collector's Edition of DS2 coming though.
aspro said:^Shit, I still need to play Demon's Souls
I recommend cheating through it.....it makes it more fun.

I still need to finish Demon's Souls; I then have to play Dark Souls before I can play Dark Souls II.
The servers have been shut down a while ago for Demon's Souls so you will never get to experience a large aspect of it. I suspect Dark Souls will follow the same fate not too long after the sequel is released so I would put it high on the priority list if you want to experience the game fully. The online aspects of Dark Souls are even larger and of more signifigance than in Demon Souls and they will all go away forever once the servers get taken down. (Except maybe for PC I don't know)

Not really it seems, the grey should be pitch black meaning you want to light a torch, now lighting a torch makes the game darker. Its a complete mess. There are more comparison videos, it looks like a different game.
We need inside info, we need detectives, we need loads of info on what the hell happened to this game. It makes no sense what so ever.
Look at this. PS3 version from a few months back to PS3 version at launch

WTF, its not just the lighting, why did all the textures change too?

This is like a generation jump. But it was running on a PS3.
Leading theory is that the demo was handled by a different team given a slice to work with. But the full team never were able to use all those nifty graphics effects.
Most people think the PC version will look exactly the same. We may need to wait for some SE or new version later on.

Which means if the PC version does look the same no one will be able to run it anyway. :x
Im getting giddy! Remember the first time you start any new Souls game. That sense of wonder and horror as you die over and over but you learn, you go deeper and deeper into the amazing madness. What will the first boss be like? What will be the first hidden item you find? What will be the first area you enter that you really have no business entering at that low level? In the first few hours will there be that dragon on a bridge moment from Dark Souls 1?
Little over an hour to go!

That did not happen in Dark Souls 1. First 2 bosses were pieces of piss, and dying wasn't that common.
Saddest midnight opening ever, like 20 people. the case is so beautiful!

Welcome to the Dark Souls 2 thread! In case you have no clue what this game is just know it will kick your ass, you will cry from the pain but you will love it. For most of us we are just excited to jump back into these amazing worlds and slowly die our way to victory.
Release Date: 360/PS3: 3/11 for NA. 3/14 for EU. PC is not confirmed for NA yet but EU is coming 4/25 so that seems to be the best guess.

From some impressions of people that have it early seems like PS3 version has slightly worse frame rate than 360.
