So for how many of you does this minspec knock you out of the consideration?

Here's what you need for "the full Rift experience", Oculus said:

  • Nvidia GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

As for me, it's a bit of a relief, I have a 2 year old PC, and I cannot use it, so I can ignore it for a while.  Surely that is the plan right? Rolling start, so to reduce the amount of people exposed to it, but the leet can buy, tell us proles we are missing out and raise demand while limiting exposure to the product.

I think my pc could barely do it. But I expect it would be laggy.

I have no interest in it right now anyway.

I meet those specs. I would buy it I guess, but something makes me think it's going to be another one of those stupid US-only things for a long-ass time.

But will you have to upgrade your PC? You have a PS4, why not just get Morpheus?

Fuck it man, can we just skip ahead to where they start implanting chips directly into our brain? I got a feeling it'll be easier.

I just want virtual tourism, surely that would be possible with a tablet or laptop right?

Cause Sony never supports peripherals.

Frankly I think the VR thing is going to be a fizzle on the level of AR or 3D. To do it properly means it will be expensive, and that means low install base, which means no developers can justify the development cost.

Then you'll have "cheap" almost-there peripheral type things like Morpheus and Sumsung's thing that will under-represent the possibilities and as a result turn off the general public.

I'm not trying to be negative on this one, it just seems like we are still not there, and we'll have this conversation again in another 20-25 years, but that time it will actually be ready to go.

But that's what they said 25 years ago when the Virtual Boy came out. cheeky

Morpheus wont be cheap if Sony previous HMD devices are anything to go by. £400 and up.

Morpheus is not "cheap" at all given you have to buy the console as a startnig point.

Good point. If Sony were truly about bringing VR to the forefront of gaming, they should have designed Morpheus to work any one of the 3 consoles...Wii U, Xbone, or PS4. I'm only half joking.

Or, to further Archie's point, if OculusRift were serious about their porn platform solidifying VR as being here to stay and Occulus Rift being its harbinger, they'd include Fleshlight and RealDoll support.
