Nintendo sure went into a defensive cramp, curling up to toss out the same kinds of games we've been playing since the days of the N64.  Not unexpected, but disappointing nontheless.  *hugs Splatoon*

I think it's because they've killed off Wii U and are shifting everything to NX. They just haven't said it publically yet.

I thought it was great. I guess everyone else too big of expectations.

Star Fox might have looked bad graphically but Nintendo always polishes the graphics last.

SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:

  • SMB Mix-Up! (1AB2-0000-0047-5A7D)
  • Storm the Castle (77BD-0000-00E0-A9C0)

What was great?

One thing that pisses me off about Nintendo is that even when they have a game they don't show it in the conference. Two years in a row and Devils Third is banished like some POS. Fatal Frame not in the digital event?

They should be majorly pushing XCX. Their side project Animal Crossings can go to hell.

It was exactly as I expected it to be: decent, but overall lacking.

Problem was, XCX we all know about and have seen before, same for Yoshi. We needed new surprises and the ones we got were weird side projects like Metroid Prime Baseball and Designing Happy Homes in Animal Crossing.

Where was Retros new game? Sony and MS are showing games releasing through winter 2016 and beyond and Nintendo is only showing games out in the next 6 months. If they are killing off Wii U they should just say so.

They pretty much have to announce and release NX by the end of next year and make it backwards compatible with Wii U games and the pad.

I just don't get it. On the one hand I am playing this brilliantly creative, massively fun, polished near perfection new IP from them in Splatoon - I might even be playing Devils Third in a few weeks- on the other hand they are flopping like a fish out of water slowly dying on a fishermans boat at E3.

Typical Nintendo....they treat the MATURE rated games like they are porn and have to be shown in a back room somewhere like a dirty secret.

What's not to get? They refuse to give people what they want in terms of hardware or moving up to modern standards in terms of 3rd-party relations, online services, and truly seeking out software for everyone. So they continuously end up in this situation.

Last year it was widely accepted that Nintendo "won" E3. So it's not like they can't be crowd pleasers. And like I said, Splatoon is awesome, creative, forward thinking, impecably polished and a riot online, so it's not like they don't know what they are doing.

Anyway my view of the digital event this year was peppered by watching it on youtube with "auto" video quality, so most of it was at 240p. Now I've gone through the trailers in HD thanks to NintendoLife here I feel a lot better about it.

  • Starfox looks like it could be a pretty good game if the visuals come together, the gameplay looks compelling.
  • Super Mario Maker looks insane at times, really creative stuff there. I would like some more graphical styles and I think it should be a budget game, but it looks cool and I could make the Super Mario World sequel I always wanted.
  • Mario Tennis Ultra smash doesn't exactly get the juices flowing, but it doesn't look bad. It's just boring to me personally.
  • XCX still looks f-ing awesome to me and it can go toe to toe with anything announced on other platforms in scope.
  • Fatal Frame looks pretty good
  • Yoshis Wooly World has really come on, it looks great actually in the trailer and I'm leaning towards a purchase
  • That Animal Crossing game(s) can go fuck itself.

So Splatoon now, maybe followed by Devils Third and Fatal Frame, Mario Maker and Yoshis Wooly World, then XCX and Starfox for Christmas? That's not too bad I guess. Still on the fence about Kirby Clay game.

I honestly don't remember anything from last E3 so it couldn't have been all that incredible from anyone. The last E3 I recall from Nintendo was 2006 when they unveiled the Wii and all those early killer games. In terms of being memorable. Then before that, 2004 was the best they ever did....Zelda, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2. And 2003 was the horrible one where everyone abandoned the Gamecube after they made Pacman vs their major E3 game.

Watching Star Fox.....is this the 3DS remake of SF64?

Star Fox looks like a Wii game graphically, but the game looks fun at least. Will buy.

Agree on 2004 and 6.

Last year, yeah, most people said they won E3. Better games releasing sooner or already out. Better video format.

Star Fox's visuals aren't that bad.  They'll probably improve too.  The game play looks top notch.

Oh wait, last year was the Zelda U video right? So basically they "won" just because of that.
