Metroid: Other M Pros and Cons:

Pro: Team Ninja has a certain cinematic flair that could do justice to a more fleshed out (no pun intended) Samus story.

Con: Team Ninja stories NEVER make sense.

Pro: Samus' life/past and especially the events of Super Metroid (and Fusion) can make for a great story --AND-- show a woman who is immensely strong but protective and even nurturing at times.

Con: Team Ninja can't portray a woman without sexualizing her. Samus isn't a love-sick school-girl, nor is she a heaving-breast, overly-emotional woman. Her speaking a lot and the whole Adam story-line worries me in their hands. SAMUS WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE A SEXUAL OBJECT!

Pro: In the past games (for the most part) Samus has been a powerful warrior but the emphasis has always been more on slower, methodical fighting than all-out, Bounty-Hunter action. This game CAN change that image in one fell swoop and show a more agile, more able Samus.

Con: Too much twitch and not enough exploration can make this feel TOTALLY not like a Metroid title. I love Super Metroid and Prime, not so much a fan of Ninja Gaiden. This is a fine line to walk.

Pro: I'm ALL for simplified controls...

Con: ...IF they work well! Sideways Wii-Mote? Two button Metroid control? Pointing the Wii-Mote at the screen can work well (Super Paper Mario)... but Super Metroid used the 6-button SNES controller! Potentially a problem. Either an over-simple, Twitchy Metroid can be the result --OR-- Confusing gameplay with motion, pointing and multiple button presses --AND/OR-- buttons in awkward spots... (A button for Morphing)... THIS has me most worried!

Story doesn't matter either way for me so it is a non issue.

The impressions say there is plenty of exploration and it feels more like Super Metroid than Prime.

The controls, yeah, what the hell.

Not taking into account the obvious 2D/3D difference, Metroid Prime's gameplay structure is basically the same Super Metroid except for the scanning; there was no scanning in Super Metroid.

Scanning is mostly optional, you bring up a visor and lock on to points of interest, enemies, stuff. Hold down the lock on for a while and you get some information for it. You do need it to progress at certain spots (scan something, then you can interact with it) but it mostly provides background information.

You could scan various things in the games to get more detailed info about them. For instance, you could scan a computer terminal, and read the data logs that were written on it or you could scan an enemy to learn about its species and possible weaknesses. Unfortunately, a lot of scanning was required just to play the game like unlocking doors or activating elevators, which slowed down the gameplay, and made for a more tedious experience (IMO) than what Super Metroid offered.

Team Ninja is not making the game alone. Sakamoto and his team are also working on it. Sakamoto is the director and he is the one responsible for the story. He also wrote the Metroid manga, so the story is solely his responsibility.

Ah wrong, Nintendo sexualized Samus in Zero missions and Brawl. Again Sakamoto is the director and Metroid is his baby. Again Sakamoto is solely responsible for this

Most previews compare it to Super. And Super has much faster gameplay then the Prime trilogy. The one thing missing from Prime was Samus's acrobatics. That seems to be returning in other M. None of the previews compared it to Ninja Gaiden. It does sound weird, but Ninja Gaiden it is not

Yeah, I made a similar comment before about the controls. Even the GBA Metroids use four buttons. I would have preferred a nunchuck, wiimote combo.

Analog to walk. B to shoot A to jump, z morpball and c missiles. D pad choosing weapons. Wiimote aiming. No need to go first person this way. Just point and shoot.  

 Okay Leo, my answers are in red. I short it is a unfair to be worried about Team Ninja. Nintendo is also working on it and they are responsible if it fails.

So Iga, how do you feel about auto aiming in 2D? Only being able to use missiles in 1st person?  Auto replenishing your missiles and some health, which goes hand in hand with no missile or life drops from enemies?

All sounds weird to me. I really need to hear more of it and play it to form a conclusion. I am not worried, it already sounds better than Prime Hunters, and if I can play that I can play this.

Most of these things mentioned need to be explained more. Regenerating health, how does it work exactly? Can you do it always and what are the limits? And with powerups? Do you need to be authorized always or it it just at the beginning? Perhaps is like Fusion, where you need to find a computer and download weapons data? Or perhaps, they un-authorize your weapons and you have to find then on your own? Perhaps some of these things were just for demo purposes?

To many questions, I will await answers. And in the meantime I have lots of game to play. Not really worried, but a little intrigued.
