It seriously feels to me that the gaming community is about as mature as junior high.
The amount of comformity is just fucking ridiculous. The term "hardcore" is the biggest marketing ploy ever. Think about it "Castlevania DS games" are the pinnacle of "hardcore 2D gaming", you HAVE to own (insert "Core" Wii game here) to help out core gaming for the Wii, you HAVE to own (insert big hyped game here) because it's the "next" big thing. The Castlevania example refers to how 2D developers just use their games as "cash-in's". How does Konami get praised for reusing sprites from the 16-bit era and same gameplay mechanics for 11 years with barely innovation? Because Castlevania is "the hardcore!". Seriously it's fucking pathetic, why doesn't this game get shit on it? Why isn't Order of Ellesca on the Wii with Muramasa quality graphics, open world maps, and innovations such as Z-Axis travel? Or how about "help core gaming" shit? I should buy "De Blob" to let third parties that I want the game? The hell, I buy games because I want them not to invest in them. And the "must own" shit is just ridiculous. So I HAVE to buy "Fallout 3" because it's the season's "must have game"? WTF. I mean yes movies do this shit too,but nowhere near as rampantly or frequently.
And don't even get me started with the immaturity. This console wars shit is just pathetic. People are defending CORPORATIONS not THEIR SYSTEM. You don't own "a Wii" or "a PS3" you own games that are on a game player that's it. It makes me laugh shitless when people say shit like "this 360 game will flop" or "Wii lacks this" or "Year of the PS3" I mean seriously WTF? They are just the consoles not the games. If you don't like the games avaliable on the PS3 then don't buy it. If you own a 360 but are interested in Smash Bros. Brawl then buy a Wii don't say forget it "because that's the other console". The fuck? That's what the companys WANT you to do.
EDIT - Oh and "The Wii is Going to Kill Gaming" remember that shit? I mean...what? Seriously think about that it's hilarious. And how about "The Japanese don't buy the 360 because they are too nationalistic"? That doesn't even need an explanation.

Well, I find myself taking time over games and trying to enjoy what I won before getting new stuff but its hard. I would say that I like adventure games and more recentely having games that are different and new. I'm all about new experiences on the one hand and re-jigging of nostalgic concepts on the other.
I think it's a great time to be a gamer and even if the economic downturn is hurtign us personally, the plus side is that you can get some games for cheap prices.

It's as I've said before it seems that anything that is epic, looks above-average, and "hyped" by companies is a guaranteed great seller and "killer app". In Gaf people have already created "X Console Line-up 2009 hype lists". I mean it's cool and all to explore and see games you haven't heard of before, but if it becomes a "console war" then stupid shit happens ("Secret PS3 Game"?). Gaming is still very young (possibly JUST entering its toddler years) and therefore both the suppliers and consumers are in the same rut. I've already went all on the developers/pubilshers multiple times, but the consumers are just as much at a fault.

Sorry dude but you own Castlevania cause its an incredible game. Yes it could be on consoles but 2D doesn't sell on consoles apparently.
You buy Fallout 3 cause its an amazing game.
What is with you and hyped games? Guess what, they usually turn out to be the best games.
The wii Sonic has more hype than the 360 and PS3 one, and is better!

Agreed. The Castlevania handheld games are simply excellent games all around.
I also love hype myself. Pretty much all the big hyped games turn out to be fantastic games in general and I really can't think of any that have really disappointed me. I love all the excitement and furvor that surround big name game releases especially around something that I enjoy so much.

Have you sent him a message via the Wii Message Board, GG? He might be easier to reach that way, I don't know.

When a series hasn't made any significant steps for over a decade and reuses sprites from the 16-bit era and has less heart and sole then the formulas first interationthere's a problem.

I guess I'm kinda like Leo in that I don't like to own a lot of stuff; I feel kinda overwhelmed when my apartment is cluttered with a lot of stuff. Besides it's easier to dust when you don't own much. I mostly keep only what I will make use of often. Every 2-3 years, I go through all of my stuff (games, movies, music, books, ect.), and decide what I can live without. I then sell or give it away.
Back in Summer 2006, I sold off most of my video game collection: Xbox, Dreamcast, SNES, Genesis, N64, Sega Saturn, and all of the games that I had for each (about 20-50 games per console). I also sold my Gamecube, but kept most of those games. I then used the money (nearly $1800) to buy my Wii, and a few games for it (the rest went into the bank). I haven't regretted that decision since.
Now that my current college semester is over, I'm going through all of my stuff again to see once again what I can live without. It's funny, but I managed to accumilate quite a bit of stuff in just two-and-a-half years. I will be selling a bunch of my stuff on ebay over the next couple weeks. Hopefully, the money I make on ebay will cover all of the Christmas presents and Black Friday deals that I bought recently. Maybe even a shiny new DS Lite? I can only hope.
I guess what I'm saying is, I've gone the hardcore collector's route, and I wasn't happy. Now that I own fewer games, I tend to focus my attention on each of them more often. None of my Wii games have gone more than a month without me playing it. That's something I just couldn't do when I owned over 300 games across mulitple consoles.
