I got it after quitting after the first hour too. Still have it, based on your comments I actually had moved it into my shelf of next to play. I have to beat Bayonetta first.

Kinky, Molotov and Control Machete are mexican. Not my kind of thing. Kinky plays some weird kind of soft-ish electronic rock, Molotov plays rock with other influences (latin rhythms, hip hop, and the such), but they're more widely known because of their double-entendre lyrics, and themes that, at least in their beginnings, directly attacked the mexican government and its institutions. Nowadays they're way more tame. Control Machete is a hip hop band, I think they're disbanded now, they had one big hit over here and then they sort of faded away.

Amon Tobin is Brazilian.  Great electronic music artist.  The entire music for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is original music by him (he released it as his own album) and it's pretty awesome as music at that.  DJ Krush is Japanese.  Not bad.  Quite popular amongst the macbook-starbucks-pitchfork hipster crowd.

Robert Miles is an asshole.

Couple of questions about Crackdown -- started playing it last night.  Does killing the gang members in the street have any impact (other than bringing up my shooting skills)?

Also, how do you throw stuff, I pick up a dude and get that button go (RED) and then he just drops on the ground in front of me.

Finally -- is it autosave only?

No. Killing them doesn't do anything special.** Killing the Generals makes a difference though. Kill a general in charge of recruitment and less gang members roam the streets, for example.

Pick stuff or bodies up with the "B" button, Pull the R Trigger to throw.

You can quit at any time from the Menu and it will save that way too. You start back at The Keep or from a Supply Spot, though. It doesn't save where you are.

**I'm sure you know this already, but kill the common enemies with a grenade, you get purple "Explosive" skill orbs. Kill them by Beating them to death, you get yellow "Strength" orbs. Run them over with a car and get purple "Driving" skill orbs. All these besides JUST Shooting Skill orbs.

Okay, I knew about the generals, I killed 2 of them and the instruction manual says there is 21 in the campaign mode, so that's how I'll play.  I was hoping I was winning back territory some how by killing the gang members in the the streets -- so that will save me a lot of time.

There is no way-point system for the Map huh?

I knew the orbs were upping my abilities, just didn;t know specifically.  I have noticed I am more robust, can jump and drive better than when I first started.

This game finally clicked with me last night. I'm digging it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have Crackdown, there is --FREE-- DLC that improves the game a bit in a few minor ways.

  • It opens up a "Key to the City" menu option that allows you to play around in the city with cheats enabled just for fun that will NOT save any progress.
  • It installs a "Garage" in The Keep where you can collect cars that you encounter in the game.
  • There is an option (and the menu is different) for selecting Agency Cars; now with selectable colors.
  • It gives you Three more Character Skins in case the original batch of Agents don't do it for ya.
  • Apparently, the Agents that have Helmets have some sort of special function built into them that I haven't encountered in game yet.
  • It also adds a "Ground Pound" attack that wasn't in the original.
  • I believe it also adds a "Rocket Tag" game to play with others online.

It's fun. It's free. There's also other DLC you actually need to purchase that includes Mini-Guns and other Highly Destructive Weapons. All the DLC is accessible straight from the Main Menu of the game.

I'm having trouble upgrading my jump, so even though I've killed 5 generals now I still have only the original checkpoint. Sad All the checkpoints are up high.

Just start gathering as many of the Green Agility Orbs as you can.

I made THAT the focus for the first hour or two I played.

Look for obvious stairways if you have to. Also, you CAN grip on window sills and climb buildings that way too!

Upgrade that jump, Agent!

I try some of the ones I have not gotten to yet.  I've been able to upgrade all my other skills, so I'll do that for the next couple of hours. Thanks Leo.

Just for fun's sake alone that would be what I would recommend to ANYONE playing Crackdown.

GO FOR THE GREEN ORBS FIRST!

The game starts out like any other sandbox game at first --BUT-- once you start to get the ability to leap 40 feet in the air, jumping over buildings, from building to building and scaling skyscrapers in seconds, the game starts to be a whole different kind of fun.

Driving and Guns seem to be my two weakest skills. Why drive when I can leap long distances? Why shoot guys when I can stomp them to death?

My agent is at Four Star strength at the moment, for example. I can lift over 2 tons and throw it 230 feet. I see Enemy Cars heading at me on the highway. I shrug. Drop kick the car so it flips over a few times, then pick it up and throw it in the ocean with the two passengers still on board!

My Explosive strength is up there too. I have a Rocket Launcher. I launch one into the middle of a group of foes and watch as their bodies fly dozens of feet in the air and tumble helplessly to their doom! Hee hee!

Another thing Aspro. Get those orbs. Get to those supply points and START COLLECTING ENEMY WEAPONS! There's not a whole heck of a lot of different ones, but you're gonna want to get rid of the dinky pistol you start off with pretty quickly, then go for the Sniper and Machine Guns. The Grenade and Rocket Launchers aren't too long after getting those, too.

Just grab a Supply Point. Hunt a few enemies. Grab their weapons and grenades when they go down and immediately bring them back to that Supply area. You can then freely swap between those weapons and get more ammo there too! VERY HANDY!

Green orbs first for sure, it makes it an entirely different (better) game.  I am three star 60 in strength right now, about the same with guns and just on my second star with the green, now I've been able to get storehouses all over the first two parts of the island (though I've not progressed in my career goals).  I'm treatign this period as I would grinding in an RPG.

Also did you get the "shotput" acheivement? I got it early by accident by throwing a car off the bridge.  I thin kit's for throwing something further than 250 feet.

Hmmm... I'm going to have to look. I must have it cause I throw stuff all over the place, all the time. Have you pulled the "pick up and throw an explosive barrel, target lock it and shoot it to explode near your target" trick yet? I don't think there's an associated achievement, but it's fun to do!

Are you kicking cars around yet? Just WAIT until you are at 4-star!

How about shooting cars/trucks gas tanks, specifically? The explosion and resulting carnage is sooo worth it! (You DO know you can target specific body parts and car parts by pressing the right analog while aiming, right?)

I'm playing on the middle difficulty, so my progress isn't going as quickly as I thought it would, but it is definitely frantic and fun!

Yeah, I'm four star. I usually use brute force over weaponry too.  I'm playing on hard I think, I'll check.  I have not done the explosive materials lock-on and shoot yet.

In playing this game I am slightly less impressed with inFamous now, as I can see that this game laid a lot of the framework for it -- just as I felt when I played Devil May Cry and though less of God of War.

Crackdown is a good name for this game though -- it's like crack, I want to play it all the time and can't stop thinking about it.
