I scored the Wii based upon personal fun-factor and potential. Out of the three home consoles, I still regard the Wii as my favorite this gen.

I was judging it on its own merits, and not compared to other 7th generation consoles. Perhaps if I did the score would be higher. WinkWink

Hmm, even comparing the Wii to the other consoles, I would not lower my score.

I think you guys are handing out B's like candy. I will post later but Wii is a C at best.

Vader complaining that other people give out high score like candy? Pot, Kettle, your black, etc.

But the best thing the Wii did. It brought back the 2D platformer...

I think you can give XBLA and those Flash PC games more than equal credit for that.

I specifically said in retail. Because if we use flash PC games then they never went away to begin with.

I give it an A+ for reliability and hardware quality (and lack of noise).

Using double A's as a battery instead of lithium is a big plus in my book as well (since I want to be playing on this thing in at least ten years time).  I have a ton of old non-disposable battery hand-helds that are now museum pieces.

The D-pad on the Wii-mote, in fact all of the buttons other than A, C and Z are fairly useless.  But it is comfortable to hold.

I'd give the Wii a C+. The only reason I wanted one and the only reason I keep it is for Nintendo games and the VC. There are some third party games that interest me and I have gotten most of them, mainly from Capcom. The controller was a mixed bag, it could be both fun and awkward at times. Most everything about the system has been mediocre for me like it's performance power, storage capabilities, and online capabilities.

I don't know about this whole judge on it's own merit thing. How much time I spend on this console is directly related to how much I spend on others. I rarely play my wii, and when my ps3 was broken I didn't have much to play. The library simply is t up to the others standards. Also as time goes on features become expected, I fully expected the wii to support hd and have a good online service. What I am saying is that it has to be measured to what is expected of consoles of it's era

WhT I mean is that all current gen consoles should be expected to have those features. I didn't think Nintendo would do it but they do nit get a free pass, they are held up to the same standards of the others. The wii is supposed to have those features.

They sold more than the other consoles and they did not bleed money out of their ass. The market has decided and the market has decided that Nintendo made the correct choice with the Wii.

I don't care about sales in this case. This console was outdated the second it came out. It worked out for them but that does not male it a plus for me.

Sure as long as you realize that in the grand scheme of things you do not matter much. The market will dictate what is succesful and what is not.

@Edgy

2009 and 2010 were good years and Xenoblade and Zelda just save 2011 in Europe at least.

Games like the COD games work fine on Wii (their drawbacks have more to do with the Wii's specs than the online). Monster Hunter works fine on Wii. Tatsunoko vs Capcom works fine on Wii. The last few Guitar Heroes work fine on Wii. All online. The only game I played that was really flawed due to a bad online implementation was Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but shit happens, it's not the first beat 'em up to have shit net code on any platform, and it won't be the last, it's one of the toughest genres to do and even the best of them are still far better played locally. There are probably a few other duds but again, shit happens. While Nintendo certainly didn't do a very good job in that area (and it's good to see they're improving, with the 3DS already having a system wide friend code and all the talks with publishers for the Wii U), they also don't really make games that need that for the most part, so it wasn't a huge downside for their system in the end, once developers figured out how to work around it at least, with games like my examples. If I rated consoles based on bullet points rather than the fun I got out of them I'd rate all of them with 1/10 because the PC does everything better, from the various online implementations to the quality of graphics, to the choice of control schemes to the availability of niche, indie, quirky titles, to digital distribution, to the pricing of games that more than makes up for the platform's own price, to backwards compatibility and the availability of older titles which actually gets better over time rather than worse (thanks to new services like gog), to customisation and modability of games, intended or otherwise, to whatever else. I guess what we're seeing here is that people just pick their favorite machine and bash anything with less for having less than that, but if there are also systems with more than that they just don't care because their favorite is apparently just good enough to be awesome and anything above that is a neat bonus of no real importance, or something along those lines...

And you are free to grade the Wii however you want, but saying that the Wii is supposed to have some of the features is laughable. The Wii is designed with a philosophy in mind. You might not like it, but  it is what it is. HD graphics are not part of the design spec, it is 2011 time to accept that.
