Platinum Games have always been mercenaries, but after this E3 it's clear that they're actually whores. Nier? Really? How does that make any sense—genuine question, haven't played Nier. Not that I'm complaining: thank God their new game wasn't just the shitty Transformers cash-in. So now we know Platinum will do literally anything for money (and with enough money will probably do a good job), what game announced at E3 (or currently in develop) should they be working on?

My pick is THPS5. It looks like shit currently, and Platinum might actually be able to make a great arcade skateboarding game. They've got deep combos coming out the arse, without sacrificing accessibility. And they are responsible for possibly the best sliding mechanic in a shooter—how hard could it be to translate that into grinding in a skateboarding game? It just makes sense. And hell, Bayonetta's no slouch on a surfboard. This reads just like a proven track record in the genre...

Not Zelda necessarily, but I want to see what Kamiya would do in a zelda styled game this time. I quite dig Okami.

I want platinum to do Oneechanbara. They know action games, they know strong females. Fits like a glove.

Still think Nintendo should just outright buy them.

A wrestling game, why not? WWE could use some freshness in their video games.

Yeah, you're right.  Nintendo prefer to pick up small studies and help them evolve internally rather than just flat out buying extablished ones.  But still...

Fuck no to the idea that Nintendo should buy them. Not from a nintendo standpoint, but from a Gagan standpoint.

Anytime a big company buys an up and commer all it means is that the original talent cashes out and the company bought is a shell and a brand anyway. Never advised.

I want Platinum to do an arcade racer. Like zero-grav style. Or mud/ stunt racer.

They learnt there lesson from Rare. Any MS picked up the tab.

That might be a game I'd deliberately spend $80 on...

I wish Platinum was working on a new Wave Race.

I'd like to see them revive the 2D scrolling beat em up genre.

Rare was still fine until MS bought them. And I have no doubt they would still be fine and would have put out many more classics over the years had Nintendo kept them. But what you guys are talking about, with studios being bought and then everyone leaving, seems to be more of a western problem than a Japanese one. Monolith Soft is fine after Nintendo bought them.

Japan has had a major problem with top talent leaving studios, which is why Platinum exists in the first place. But its not because of buyouts. Its something else.
