I am pretty sure the concepts for the combat comes from kingdom hearts. It's disgused but it is mostly the same.

Yeah its fine I guess. I assume all the actual details of leveling Was removed for then demo, that is probably why it was weird to me.
Dvader said:The first shocking thing to me is that the graphics aren't that great. There was something about the gifs and trailers that made it look crazy but when you get it there is noticeable frame rate issues, the models are not that sharp, there are last gen textures and elements all over.

You know exactly what they are doing, back slides!
I have no clue how hard it was for the square guys to get an angle that gif had. I have yet to see my teammates do anything cause the camera is zoomed in a creature that is running around. Look at the gif you don't even see The enemy they are fighting you either see the enemy or don't see anyone.

It kind of sounds like Mass Effect where you don't level up until after the mission.
I watched some of this on Twitch last night and I really liked what I saw. It was funny to see them attacking those wooly mammoth type creatures only to see some of the larger ones come to the aid of the smaller ones and stomp all over them. The leveling looks nice with the camping and clean looking UI. The bacdkground scenery looks excellent and it looks like simply running around and exploring should be very enjoyable. The combat looks good but without hands-on I don't know how it feels.

I do also.
I'm going to give this a play tomorrow night. Hopefully Square takes any complaints about the game to heart and fixes shit before the official release. And brings in Sakaguchi as a consultant.
Finished the demo, combat got a little better when I fought large mobs and I had to use my abilities more but it is still messy. There is a cave you enter and you fight a ton of trolls, tons. I was being hit from all sides, teammates were dropping, I couldn’t find a good strategy that worked. It was just a lot of attacking widely.
Then I unlocked the summon which is INSANE visually. It’s back to the craxy summons of the old days. But it activates when you fall in combat, which makes no sense, you died here is this super ATTACK that kills everyone, huh? So you use that to kill the behemoth, so that isn’t really a boss fight. I tried to explore around and there was nothing to do but fight junk mobs.
Again I know the full game will have much more going on but I feel the purpose of a demo is to give a taste of that, this demo fails to do so. I know some demos give you like a mini boss at a higher level to show what mid game combat would be like, that was needed here.
I have enjoyed many demos over the years, this one is not one of them.
Yeah I watched some gameplay footage with the trolls in the cave. The game looks great and the Ramuh summon looked amazing. I love the crazy summons of some of the previous Final Fantasies, those were always a big draw for me, so it's awesome to see them back in this game. The way they're summoned though seems wrong to me. I want to summon them at will, not purposely get knocked down to 0 HP.

It is completely idiotic, I really hope that is just for the demo.

I sure hope so because it currently makes no sense.
I just got done playing this today.
For the most part, I liked it well enough. The production values are great, though when you're in an open environment the visuals tend to get downgraded quite a bit. And I like the characters so far as well, and I'm also a fan of the campsite leveling system. Reminds me of Morrowind in a way.
The combat is a bit odd and it does feel very chaotic and all over the place. I'll tell you right now, they had best fix the clipping issues before release. I was in combat, going for the Behemoth...ran into a pack of wild dogs or whatever they are, did a special lunge attack move and my guy ended up stuck on a fucking tree and I couldn't progress any further.
That shit needs to go before release.
Wow this is what versus would have been http://youtu.be/uQ7MwTXYLpg
So much better than anything in the demo.
