Did you beat it alone or through multiplayer?
I gave up long time ago because it was just too difficult to beat the game by myself. I can spend hours grinding and leveling up but it would take forever.
But your post is kind of making me want to play it again. Something about Diablo II that stays addictive.

Beat it solo so I have to admit I'm fairly proud of that. I was never able to beat the first one solo.
Diablo II is not a game that really allows for level grinding. You're better off just trying to upgrade equipment. That's sort of how I pulled it off. I found a good staff that gave a bonus to a high level ice spell and that was enough to beat Diablo. In fact, I'd say the other level boss was actually harder than he was due to the way I nearly completely relied on magic instead of fighting.
i beat the first Diablo with all three classes (first playthrough was a Sorcerer) and Diablo II with a Sorceress. I haven't (to my knowledge) taken a decade to complete a game but I have many unfinished ones so you never know

I've never played Diablo II. I would get it, but Battlechests are fucking expensive and hard to come by around these shores. Maybe the next time my folks hop over the Rio Grande.
This is funny. I put Prince of Persia two thrones in and I had two save files 2 years apart, one from 2008. I play this game for an hour every couple of years. Still haven't beat it

Two years on some games is pretty normal for me -- like Tomb Raider: Underworld right now.
It has not taken me ten years on a game, but there are three candidates right now, that if I finish them will go over that.
- GTA San Andreas. I am probably 95%+ in that game and I did that in the first 6 weeks after it's release. If I ever go back to it, then it will be up there.
- Ocarina of Time. I have started this game 3 times, gotten to Epona and then quit. I doubt I''ll ever go back to this one.
- I am currently playing FF4 and am 2/3rds of the way through, though have not touched it in 4-5 weeks. I started playing this on the SNES in 2002. I hope toi finish it this year.

I've gotten all the way to the Water Temple twice (once on the N64 and again on the GC). I gave up after that. I considered trying one more time to finish it, but my GC memory card corrupted my save file, and I didn't want to play it all over from the begining again. Heh, I recently sold the game, just so I wouldn't have to think about it anymore.
I officially beat Donkey Kong Country for the first time a couple months ago. I owned DKC2 as a kid, but not the first game. I rented it and played through certain levels when I played through friends' copies, but I never did a beginning-end finish. It took me 55 minutes.

Final Fantasy VII - ~10 years. It's the only Final Fantasy game I've completed.
Resident Evil: Director's Cut - ~13 years. I originally rented it when my brother bought a PS1. I got about ten minutes in and fearquit. After getting tired of beating REmake, I tried the original at some point last year and finished it after a couple nights.

After over 10 years I have finally done it. I have beaten Diablo II. Not exactly the biggest accomplishment in the world, but every time I picked up the game I kept getting stuck against one particular boss. So this time around I just grit my teeth and voila. Did it. Plus I changed my class to a Sorceress which I normally am inclined to stay away from in hack and slash games. Not the fiirst time I've done this though. There's a couple other games that I could not beat for one reason or another and then I wait many years and somehow it becomes much easier to finish. Crystalis for instance. Got stuck on the second to last boss and eventually quit. 6 years later, took him done with no problems. Anyone ever do this or am I just strange?
