Personal opinion aside, the fact that a character such as Alyx Vance (from the HL series) is not included is reprehensible.
Alyx is one of the best written characters in gaming, right along with April Ryan (which I didn't happen to see on the list either). Both of them are perfect examples of female characters done right, way above the usual big tits-huge ass-skimpy outfit-air head blueprint that the industry feeds us by the truckloads to satisfy our power trip fantasies and sexual frustrations.

I don't remember enough about Alyx to comment, but I will say that I have seen a pattern of character modelling for female characters which developers use as short-hand (in my mind in a cynical way). The model is, give the character normal physical dimensions, short black hair and a pair of cargo pants. You have Faith from Mirror's Edge, Jade from Beyond Good and Evil and Alyx from HL2. I mean they could be sisters. Oh and the chick from Heavy Rain.
I say it is cynical because the developers seem to get away with it (That is substitute chr models for chr development).
A character like Elena from the Uncharted series is a step in the direction of a good character. Still a long way off. The female character in Dead Space (the bitchy latina) was a bit deeper, but they also gave her a bombshell figure. I don;t know, I guess it's all progress.

Phoenix absolutely should have been there (though he does lack the raw sexual magnatism of Miles Edgeworth).
Seeing Cloud and Sephiroth so high on the list makes me shake my head. Frankly if you're going to pick any character from that series, Zack was the most interesting one. Once again he continues his reign as "most screwed over character in gaming history."
And of course Travis Touchdown really should have been on there as well. Easily the best new character of this generation. But the whole list sucks so I suppose there's no sense in getting upset.
