I require constant informational input. If I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom I turn on my MP3 player and listen to a podcast for those 3 minutes.

If I am not working, I am either listening to a podast or reading a book.  It has been this way forever, with my input tastes evolving with technology.

I was curious if this was something common among video gaming enthusiasts?

Not me. I often like the unplug myself from all distractions, and just enjoy the quiet.

I require constant oxygen. Without it I literally begin to suffocate.

I can be off the internet for days (not counting podcasts and downloading books). So I can kinda relate.

But not really.

I live in what is essentially a silence chamber (due to the remoteness) and I can;t enjoy it.

At night I turn on a fan just so there is some kind of noise.

Well that's a no-brainer. I honestly am listening to aural input whenever I am not at work or am reading.

The negatives are yet to be pointed out. The positives are that it in increases your vocabulary on a pretty high level.

Do you think it's partly because you moved out to the sticks? You are used to more people and noise?

I am sort of like this, not to the point where I cant take a 3 minute break or anything but sitting around doing nothing is not for me. I am either on a computer, a game, TV, listening to something or talking to some one. Sitting around doing nothing is not for me at all. Standing in a line doing nothing bothers me. Doing anything I dont find stimulating drives me crazy.

Yes, I'm very much like that also.  I play music on some device or other (stereo system, computer, car stereo, mobile mp3 player) practically around the clock except for the times when I'm at work.  Even when I sleep I have to listen to music.  I also listen to recordings of white noise or field recordings to help me fall asleep on a plane or a train (if there are annoying children etc).  When I had an analog TV set I used to love having it tuned to a dead channel and have just static.

My dad just irritates me. He can sit in an empty room and just sit there doing nothing with no input literally staring at the walls. It drives me mad.

I did that too, or listened to foreign language radio when I need to relax.

Okay, so there are a few of us then.

I was seriously wondering if there is something about the gamer mind that craves the constant stimulation, you know?

I'll be reading or on the internet or playing a portable or something and he'll literally sit there staring at the wall. It's sooooo irritating.

Gotta say, I've never seen that. I'd hit him in the face with a shovel.  But that may be because I have been playig Shovel Knight.
