I've collected radios, on a small scale, for a while.  Like transistor radios.  There is something about taking something that is 40-70 years old and being able to turn is on and listen to current programming.  It was better in the states wher I could listen to baseball on old radio's.  Just cosmically alligned perfect.

Radios like this:

Lately I have had the urge to get into Boomboxes.  Like proper boomboxes.

(My brother had this one when I was a kid, damn it was good)

Are any of you old timers like me got any good boombox memories? (Photo's please)

My dad collects crappy radios, that then break and he keeps them. Ones with torches and emergency alarms and solar powered chargers on.

My father has a large, old radio with cabinets. It's being used as a shelf.

Boomboxes being used on da streets used to be a motif in Australian media during the '90s, despite no one (except maybe some b-boys copying a staged hip hop photograph or video from America for a staged photograph or video to perpetuate this myth in Australia) ever actually using one in public. The Walkman was ubiquitous. Thus there are no pictures of my Boombox memories, because Boomboxes probably didn't actually ever exist in Australia. Except for the props which were likely just painted cardboard boxes.

Incidentally, we definitely had one or two. Who knows what they were, though.

We did have a JVC RV-B90 (or a similar model). It could get quite loud. Last I saw, my brother had it.

I don't recall ever owning a boom box.  I had a huge black stereo with wooden speakers.  I think it cost about $99 from Walmart.  It lasted about twenty years until I sold it.  My alarm clock is over twenty five years old, with old wood paneling.  I love it and still use it to this day.  It works as well as it did back in 1989.

I had a JVC ghetto blaster that looked similar to that Aiwa pic you have, it was pretty sweet. I used to go out with it hiked up on my shoulder blasting Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and AC/DC. That was back when I was much, much younger and with much longer hair. Sadly it met it's end at a party having beer spilt all over it.

Aw man, you are missing out. It's still awesome if you find an old copy. I think you'd dig it.

Up until around 2000/2001, I always used to have Boom boxes...not the one piece "carry it on my shoulder" type. The more modern ones with detachable speakers...like a mini stereo.

From the early 90's until around 97 I had a sweet Magnavox one...this thing cost me around $140 at circuit city back in the day and it could BLAST. I had people in my area who thought I had a big fancy stereo...I'd tell them its just a smallish boombox stereo and they'd be amazed. I lived in a nice small New England town, and you could hear Pantera blasting 2 streets away.

Fun fact...I didn't have a ton of money back then, so to get this radio I did something I regret to this day. I sold my mint Super Nintendo and like 20 games to my brother's friend for $200.

LOL...I just googled magnavox stereo system, and I actually found the exact one I had...this guy posted a great pic of it!

This lasted me faithfully until the late 90's, at which point the CD player on it died on me. So my friend let me have his Sony Stereo system which, while it didn't go as loud as the magnavox, had nice clear sound itself and also had what was a revelation to me at the time...Red and White audio inputs! So for the first time, I was able to use a stereo system like this to plug my Playstation and N64 into and get actual QUALITY sound playing my games. Its funny to think of now, but at the time it blew me away what a difference it made having great sounding games. Sooooo much better than playing through TV speakers.

Can't find a pic of the Sony one, but it was similar to this:

I wish I cared more for audio.  I have no such stories to share.  I've never been big into music, or even music in games.  I owned one of those detachable boxes thingies Edge posted about, but I hardly used it.  It was just there because it was expected to be owned by a young adult my age.  I'd be hard pressed remembering most music or sound design in games.  I've always just used my TV's speakers for my videogames as well.  Like I said, I wish I knew and cared more about such things, but it just doesn't do anything for me.  My life is so hollow  Sad

^ Hey not everybody's into the same stuff. I had a few friends growing up that weren't into music either. They would just listen to whatever...didn't matter to them. Kind of background noise I guess.

At least you have good taste in games. You could be like Vader. wink

Time to admit you were wrong, then: 08. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings = 660 points, 11 honorable mentions.
