Thanks! ...but these are really just the tip of a Titanic-Sinking Iceberg when it comes to my BioShock Theories!

I've pondered Heaven and Hell. Capitalism and Socialism. Freedom and Utopia. The Oedipus and Electra Complexes. Right and Wrong. God and Satan. Parallel Universes and the Illusion of Free Will. Separation of State and Religion. Quantum Physics (Science) and Religion... **

The list goes on and on and on...

LOL

**These are what Irrational Games considers to be the "Variables." Then what are the Constants?**

It would be me just nonsensically rambling!

It just involves waaay too many concepts. **Variables!** What it comes down to **I think** is The Power of the Human Spirit and Love vs. the Multitudinal Philosophies of Modern Day Society. This is **of course** complicated by both Good and Evil paths throughout the games --BUT-- as is true in reality, they don't really matter in the long run, as they are merely points of view.** Due to a Grand Homeostasis, life has a way of returning to a State of Equilibrium despite what humans do or don't do...

...or something!

**Who was Good and Evil in Columbia? The Vox? Comstock? DeWitt? Elizabeth as a Vengeful or Benevolent Savior?**

I doubt there is a correct answer. Its the to make us think and it has succeeded.

The one thing I found kind of haunting about the three games is the human element. Especially when it came to the stories of the three innocent children you learn about along the way. In One, you learn the story of a girl who is kidnapped and turned into a Little Sister. Her mother is frantic looking for her and is horrified when they find her transformed. You find her and her husband, clutching each other, dead in their bed. In Two, you have a little boy who writes a letter to a Little Sister and leaves her a Rose as a gift. You find the rose, but never get a chance to deliver it. What happened to the boy after the fall of Rapture? In Infinite, you have the girl who says she has a lot in common with Elizabeth and offers to come to the Tower to visit if she is lonely and needs a friend. What happens to HER after the Vox devastate the city? These are purely optional side-quests; some don't even lead anywhere --BUT-- they put a face on, and give a voice to, the innocents of the places where you are either surrounded by or causing violence and destruction. I think Irrational is trying to make a statement about innocent people who are caught between battling ideologies and what happens to their lives as a result. Gives me chills.

I don't think the DLC's are going to resolve anything, unfortunately. From what I've heard, the first DLC will deal with the creation of The Songbird. I think there's supposed to be a whole Human Inside/Subject Delta theme to the first DLC, at least.

I don't know if it's sad or funny that I dropped the money for the Season Pass for Infinite without knowing ANYTHING about the DLCs at all. Not what they are, when they are coming, how many there will be, etc...!

Errr... So much for my "BioShock Free Weekend."

Hrm

I guess I just can't help myself...

______________________________________________

One last thing, and then I'll stop for the night: **unless someone else wants to discuss something...**

Did anyone else hear The Bell noise at certain points throughout the game? There was a VERY distinct **Ting!Ting!** noise at what I think were meaningful points and I just don't know what it signified! Somewhere in the back of my mind, I swear I think there's some kind of reference to Classical Conditioning (Pavlovian)... as if there's some kind of experiment going on (Lutece?)... something along the lines of "Would you Kindly?"

Uneasy

Other rumors for DLC:

SPOILER!

......................................................................

......................................................................

  • Rapture! **Pretty unlikely though, if you ask me...**
  • I've heard (one of) the DLC(s) will involve another companion character, instead of Elizabeth. This could be a new character --BUT-- what I am secretly hoping for is a DLC where you play as one of the Lutece twins! **The companion would then obviously be the other twin!** Now THAT would be cool!

I think songbird will be a DLC. I also bought the DLC without knowing anything. I have total faith in them.

Leo, you covered most of the parallels. Here are some further thoughts: (I can't highlight, so just assume its all spoilers)

Spoilers

-Both worlds seem fixated on creating "Frankenstein" monsters.  Characters who are tasked with protecting innocents, like the songbird and Big Daddy.  These characters are even more tragic considering that they were considered "technological" advancements or marvels like the Handyman, for example.  They all ended more like outcasts of society.

-The vending machine.  They are everywhere and used to make a better, stronger, smarter you, as long as you have the money.  I always thought it was funny how these powers were so easily accessible to the residents of Rapture and Columbia.

-I think it's interesting that both worlds supposedly provide freedoms for  ideas, a place where scientists and engineers can work freely with no interference from the government.  In fact, both worlds seem so antigovernment.

A snippet from Wikipedia about a Mr. B. DeWitt:

"He systematically approached the quantization of general relativity, in particular, developed canonical quantum gravity and manifestly covariant methods that use the heat kernel. B. DeWitt formulated the Wheeler–DeWitt equation for the wavefunction of the Universe with John Archibald Wheeler and advanced the formulation of the Hugh Everett's many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. With his student Larry Smarr he originated the field of numerical relativity.

He received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Harvard University. His Ph.D. (1950) supervisor was Julian S. Schwinger. Afterwards he worked at the Institute for Advanced Study, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Texas at Austin. He was awarded the Dirac Prize in 1987, the American Physical Society's Einstein Prize in 2005, and was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

He was born Carl Bryce Seligman but he and his three brothers added "DeWitt" from their mother's side of the family, at the urging of their father, in 1950. (This is similar to Spanish naming customs, where a person bears two surnames, one being from their father and the other from their mother. 20 years later this change of name so angered Felix Bloch that he blocked DeWitt's appointment to Stanford University and DeWitt instead moved to Austin, Texas.) He served in World War II as a naval aviator. He was married to accomplished mathematical physicist Cécile DeWitt-Morette. He died September 23, 2004 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 81. He is buried in France, and was survived by his wife and four daughters."
