I fail to see how that's a dumb statement. He's simply stating his opinion. TBH, there are times when I feel like that about teh internetz.

No, because it's still an opinion. If that person had instead stated it as a fact, then I'd agree that it's a dumb statement.

Well your opinion that opinions can't be stupid is in itself stupid.  The opinion, for example, that prayer can heal better than a doctor has caused deaths and endangered others.

Just because something deals in terms that aren't directly quantifiable such as "good" doesn't make a blatantly false "opinion" any less moronic.

If I had never been administered any medicine in my life (for whatever reason) then I would be correct in saying that - same goes for the internet statement, it's not all sweetness and light.

That would exclude vaccines as well. You would have probably suffered tuberculosis, smallpox or polio, among other diseases, by the time you had the age to make that assertion.

 Yeah I can understand his view if that is the reason. But he's probably being hypocritcal and uses the net every damn day for email or porn etc.

That's correct. Although I really have to stress that many advances in modern medicine and improvement of healthcare are intrinsically bound to the advent of teh internets. Narrowing the breadth and scope of internet's impact in each and every aspect of our lives to just e-mailing or piracy/torrenting or whatever is doing such an important tool a huge disservice.
