Steel with jumping do you mean you have to press jump, like in Mario? Or is it like Zelda, where you run off the ledge and the jumping is automatic.

You have to press jump. If you run off the ledge Ezio will either stick his head out to watch what's below or go down and hang from the ledge.

So can you actually miss jumps and fall and die?

You have to press jump. If you run off the ledge Ezio will either stick his head out to watch what's below or go down and hang from the ledge.

Edit: Wait, you can either press jump every time, but if you keep the sprint button pressed, the jump is automatic. You run with the right trigger, and sprint with A, which is the same button used to jump.

LOL I see what you did there. It's more fun to play though. Nyaa

Sneaky bastard. LOL Personally, I think the climbing mechanics were the only thing from the first game that needed no changes. I'd be annoyed, with the amount of climbing to do in this game, to have a more complex climbing system. It's supposed to be as free-flowing and smooth as possible.

If you're high enough, you can die, or at the very least, get your health reduced and armor damaged because of the fall. If you miss a jump and are falling towards death, you can try and press A in midair to see if Ezio grabs from a nearby ledge.

Ah no I didn't mean it in that way at all.

I mean that they have to work out a routine, and animation for your character to realistically and automatically connect and move through the environment. So it must be nice to watch how this digital character works his way through it all.

I haven't played it but I do have reservations about this system.

LOL Oh ok, my bad. Yeah it's a really good system for the pace they want to create especially when you're being chased. There's a small degree of 'magnetism' where if you're at least really close to the target you're jumping to odds are you'll land it but it's a pretty small window and if you're not carefull you'll easily fall and take heavy damage or outright die.

Magnetism annoys me. I was trying to throw a bomb on a switch in Spirit tracks last night and it kept magnetising me towards standing on it instead.

Well the magnetism in AC2 is very loose almost so as to leave me hesitant in using the term because you still have to really stay on your toes and properly control your character. It really is the best control I have ever seen for a game where "parkour" plays such a prominent roll.

I've managed to avoid parkour games so far. Not deliberately though.

You have a guy running around the city, jumping on roofs and doing crazy stunts. What,s not parkour about it? Parkour is just platforming in real life. Video-games have done it for years.

Parkour to me is about realistic human movement and animation, the weight and physics and feeling behind parkour movement, turning and jumping.

Mario is fantasy jumping.

Obviously, there is no way you can change directions in mid air. Unless you are a cat or something.

I don't think Ass Creed is that realistic either, seeing as there is some magnetism and automation involved. If you want realistic platforming try Mirror's Edge.

You have no excuse

I never said I wanted realistic movement. So why should I try Mirror's Edge?

I'm just talking parkour, in gaming terms its about a more heavy, realistic style of animation and movement. It's not as fun as a regular do anything platformer to me.

On my way to Venice now, I had to traverse the countryside first, guiding a horse-pulled car, while shrugging off soldiers and in company of no other than Leonardo Da Vinci.

I've become quite the art collector now. That's how I roll.

Been playing this game all weekend. Both good and bad things stand out even more as time goes by. Attention to detail is amazing, important landmarks are not only beautifully portrayed in game, but they also have small journal entries describing important facts about their construction, and role in any given city's history. The non-linear structure of missions give this game a faint resemblance to a GTA title, even though unfortunately the side missions tend to get a bit boring after a while, with only mission titles being somewhat creative.

Platforming mechanics are still as impressive as in the first game, and they are being pushed to the forefront of the game with the superb Tombs of the Assassins stages, which are indoor sections clearly crafted with platforming in mind, with little to no combat involved. Stealth sections are only moderately entertaining, because of the stupid enemy AI, which needs a lot of improvement for future games.

Combat is much more fun this time around, with a wide array of long and short weapons at your disposal, as well as lots of new moves.

Story is interesting so far, entertaining, and some characters are remarkably well done, such as Leonardo, the spaniard, or Mario. I'm at the 9th memory block, in Venice.

Finished the eleventh block last night. Game is really picking up, all the while cool characters are still being introduced at later stages of the game, such as Bartolomeo d'Alviano, who is the baddest, most awesomely moustached motherfucker this side of the Rialto bridge.

I've done practically everything but the feathers and a couple combat achievements. Rodrigo Borgia is going down.

Almost there. Have done all side missions (courier, beatings, assassinations), and have 71 feathers under my belt. Block 14 still pending.

I don't know how the hell I'm going to manage to beat 10 guards at the same time without getting hit once.
