I think its Mario nostalgia for NSMB. I've played nothing else on the system this year that compares to the depth, charm and polish of LKS on Wii this year. So why is it being so overlooked in the awards?

I listened further to their podcast this morning, they were equally insulting and ignorant of the DS and PSP as they were with the Wii. One guy was making a push for a DS game he had not played but wanted it on the list because his girlfriend loved the first one and he was intending on buying her the sequel.

You know this reminds me of something IGN said a while back. GOTY is usually awarded to the best game THE MOST PEOPLE HAVE PLAYED.
If people are all playing games like MW2 or Uncharted 2, its unlikely you are going to get the same number playing a game that is deemed lower priority by the press.
Not talking overall GOTY but Wii specific, LKS should have been up near the top. But more people would have played NSMB, Wii SPorts resort etc.

If they exist they should at least recognise the games that deserve it. To have LKS missing from Wii specific GOTY considerations is mind boggling. Gametrailers had DJ Hero and Beatles Rock Band in the top 5, along with Madworld.

Live with the shame of LKS GoTY and next year make a specific thread of the VG Press GoTY without "polluting" it with other sites GoTY. We fucked up, forcing people to choose between 2 games would make this GoTY an even greater joke.
Let's say U2 wins, by getting votes of people that did not play it. What kind of GoTY is that? And Steel would probably choose U2, unless he likes Ass Creed 2 more. But he did not vote either. If we are going to put Homer's vote, why not put Steel's vote in it also?
And yes about not counting Homer vote, because he did not vote. If I say I am going to vote for a game and I did not vote, then I did not vote. How do you know that Homer had not changed his mind after he made that statement? Maybe he played Ass Creed 2 and found it even more awesome?
Next year we will have to change the system. Neogaf has a nice system of points, but we will cross that bridge when we get there.
