I remember the GC and boomerang batman PS3 controllers recentely came under fire for how they looked. Recently I find it unfortunate that the new PS3 controller has a ball on the end. At the end of the day though I dont care about how controllers or purple toy boxes look.

With regards to consoles the size and shape are more important just because of how they fit in your home. Otherwise they could be shocking pink with fisher price writing and if I wanted the console I would get it.

Handhelds are probably different because you play them in public.

How about the rest of you? Have you ever been put off buying something because of the way it looked? If so, why?

The batarang was an easy target as it looked ridiculous, but the real concern, at least as I saw it, was that it looked very uncomfortable.

In terms of whether I care; well, I like the fact that the Wii looks nice.  The physical size is also a convenience.  As to whether image has ever had anything more than insignificance on a purchase, that would have to be no.

Regarding controllers, I always place ergonomics above aesthetical approach. About consoles themselves, I don't really care.

i think i do care, at least a little.  but not so much that it will stop me from getting something which will give me the chance to play the games i want.

the fact that the oroginal DS was a monstrous brick from the 80ies didn't stop me from getting one and getting hundreds of hours of gaming goodness out of it.

thought the original XBox looked ugly and was too bulky but i got one eventually.  the X360 is also big and ugly but i don't know if that played a part in my mind in deciding to get a playstation instead of that.  i think it was more the SCE exclusives and not having to worry about it dying so soon

i actually loved the shape and look of the gamecube, still do.  and like yoda i'm pleased the wii is very nice aesthetically.

most recently i was disappointed i didn't hold out long enough to get a slim PS3 as i think it is a big improvement on the original design.

I thought the batarang looked comfy, when it was canned I was disappointed, I dont like the dual shock.

I like that the wii looks nice but its better that its small and I can pop it in a bag to take to family/friends.

So what about handhelds? I remember feeling self conscious playing the original DS on the tube, but when people started using lites it seemed normal. PSPs were always cool looking outside.

You liked the batarang for more salacious motives, you perv. LOL

Bolded is so true, I love the portability of the Wii. It's so easy to haul it around when I travel, or between rooms. It's not a hassle at all, unlike that lumbering behemoth of the PS3.

Handhelds are a non-issue. I am truly shocked because of the fact that even though I own the most successful handheld system of all time I can't bring myself to get some games for it and actually play it.

Edit: WTF it's not bolding! Steel is getting upset!

So on a similar sort of subject has anyone in your life ever made you feel bad about being a gamer? My parents, my father especially would always dismiss them saying they were for kids and berate me for playing them even when my older brother plays them too and we're both on or near the 30 yr old mark.

I thought that the longer handles of the batarang would make it easier to use the analogue stick. I hate having the d-pad where the analogue should be, I hate it on the classic wii controller too but I only use that for old school non stick games.

I haven't. My parents never messed up with me regarding things like that, I had so much leeway while growing up that it's a miracle I didn't end up in jail or dead. My father loves to play some Rock Band and Wii Sports whenever he comes around and they all marvel at the stupid amounts of money I spend on this stuff, but never say anythign negative about what I do with my time and money.

Yeah I do care a little bit how controllers and systems look because for me in the case of controllers if I find them nice looking it's typically indicative that I find them comfortable and easy to use ie. 360's controller. Would something ever be ugly enough not to buy it? No probably not because as long as it has games I want to play then I could probably look past that.

Well now that's a silly question. Absolutely! I wouldn't even care if it had no games to play at all, I'd just make up my own. Nyaa
