Asterix in Britain:

This really surprised me. Excellently done adapation managing to capture the manicness and slap stick of Asterix perfectly. It's less satirical and the characters are more shallow, sure, but it's too awesome to not like it for that. The Britons French...: lol: That automatically means you have to watch it in French and not the English dub, which is mediocre at best anyway. Terribly spoken French FTW.

B-13:

Another surprise. I don't really much like the style of many modern action films, especially martial arts ones. There's ones that are still pretty good like Ong-Bak---oh wait it was produced by the same people so perhaps my expectations should have been higher. The fights feature a lot of cutting unlike Ong-Bak (which is not to say that the fights aren't done fakely or anything, though) but the editing is done very well and moves perfectly smoothly with the choreography. Taha AKA Tony Montana is awesome, and so is the parkour. No wanky love story either. The less wanky love stories in action films the better if you ask me.

Wake in Fright:

Possibly the best "Australian" film I've seen, and of course the director is not Australian, half the crew is not Australian, and quite a few of the actors aren't Australian either...all I'll say is despite the kangaroo hunting gamingeek still won't like it because there's some fake confronting sutff happening to the people too. Namely the kangaroo hunting. Otherwise I'm sure he would have loved it, especially the kangaroo hunting.

I still can't understand why Australian directors and writers don't do things in a more "nautral" way. They try to copy the stylised American way of acting and writing and fail miserably. Hell, half the Australians in the film weren't actors and out acted 99% of Australian actors.

Chips Rafferty ftw, though.

That's the worst of those three films. Funny thing to note is that I didn't like any of Zhang Yimou's films first time through. Then inexplicably I ended up buying them despite this, then second time through I fell in love with Hero and House of Flying Daggers. Curse of the Golden Flower seemed quite gaudy compared to the other two but in retrospect that is what they were going for - to show the excessive opulence and greed of the imperial palace.

I found The Banquet to be a better film.

I saw 14 Blades

Utter crap. Worse than Avatar.

It has a good-ish ending but that doesn't make up for the 1 and a half hours where you have virtually no clue as to what is going on. The film is choppy, doesn't properly introduce characters, has sci fi movie of the week effects, a lame plot, average acting. It's a shame because some of the donnie yen choreographed fight scenes are great, fast and visceral but the director/writer does nothing good to frame them properly. So glad a rented this POS.

there's only like 5 bruce lee films.  all are worth watching.  i like the big boss

In tone they just felt so different.

It's the nature of any story arc, that's why it was unfortunate that they split it in two, but they really could not have cut much, and a 4 hour film wouldn't have much hope at the box office. I certainly liked the first more than the second, but the story demaded they get serious and wrap it up.  Makes me want to check out Inglorius Bastards though.
