When is someone other than me going to see Red Cliff parts 1 and 2?
Is this some 10 hour long war epic. No thanks.
It's about 4 and a half hours in total. It's like LOTR, everyone but Foolz should like it. Here watch the clip:

What were you doing in the 80s? Are you sure you even grew up in this era?
I was a baby and a little kid. I didn't get to choose what movies I watched, it sort of just happens.
That means your parents have bad taste. You should beat them. I would kidnap you and force you to watch all these movies you missed.
Also, I just remembered the ending of the Big Lebowski.
Greatest gag ever.
BTW you guys who like Coen Brothers, have you seen Blood Simple?
It has been remade by Zhang Yimou as:
Only notable because this guy directed Hero, Raise the Red Lantern, House of Flying Daggers and the Curse of the Golden Flower.
Who hasn't seen these?
You don't read other peoples' posts ever? Blood Simple is perfect. How is the remake? Probably not going to bother with it though.
I saw 3 out of those 4. Nice photography and choreography

I have selective memory.
Asterix in Britain:
This really surprised me. Excellently done adapation managing to capture the manicness and slap stick of Asterix perfectly. It's less satirical and the characters are more shallow, sure, but it's too awesome to not like it for that. The Britons French...: lol: That automatically means you have to watch it in French and not the English dub, which is mediocre at best anyway. Terribly spoken French FTW.
B-13:
Another surprise. I don't really much like the style of many modern action films, especially martial arts ones. There's ones that are still pretty good like Ong-Bak---oh wait it was produced by the same people so perhaps my expectations should have been higher. The fights feature a lot of cutting unlike Ong-Bak (which is not to say that the fights aren't done fakely or anything, though) but the editing is done very well and moves perfectly smoothly with the choreography. Taha AKA Tony Montana is awesome, and so is the parkour. No wanky love story either. The less wanky love stories in action films the better if you ask me.
Wake in Fright:
Possibly the best "Australian" film I've seen, and of course the director is not Australian, half the crew is not Australian, and quite a few of the actors aren't Australian either...all I'll say is despite the kangaroo hunting gamingeek still won't like it because there's some fake confronting sutff happening to the people too. Namely the kangaroo hunting. Otherwise I'm sure he would have loved it, especially the kangaroo hunting.
I still can't understand why Australian directors and writers don't do things in a more "nautral" way. They try to copy the stylised American way of acting and writing and fail miserably. Hell, half the Australians in the film weren't actors and out acted 99% of Australian actors.
Chips Rafferty ftw, though.
Watched Kill Bill 1&2 yesterday for the first time. I picked up the UMDs for $6 combined. Really enjoyed it, it was basically like a good manga made into the film. Would have shortened the big fight scene at the end of one and the campfire scene between Bill and Kiddo, other than that perfectly constructed film. Horrible acting from Lui, Madsen and Hannah. Good god, they were bad, but it only slightly brought the film down.
Dvader said:I saw Curse of the Golden Flower, it was awesome. Thats the only one I got to see of those three.
That's the worst of those three films. Funny thing to note is that I didn't like any of Zhang Yimou's films first time through. Then inexplicably I ended up buying them despite this, then second time through I fell in love with Hero and House of Flying Daggers. Curse of the Golden Flower seemed quite gaudy compared to the other two but in retrospect that is what they were going for - to show the excessive opulence and greed of the imperial palace.
I found The Banquet to be a better film.
I saw 14 Blades
Utter crap. Worse than Avatar.
It has a good-ish ending but that doesn't make up for the 1 and a half hours where you have virtually no clue as to what is going on. The film is choppy, doesn't properly introduce characters, has sci fi movie of the week effects, a lame plot, average acting. It's a shame because some of the donnie yen choreographed fight scenes are great, fast and visceral but the director/writer does nothing good to frame them properly. So glad a rented this POS.

I disliked the 2nd Kill Bill. I thought it would continue the badassery of the first but it was too monotonous.
BTW, question for you guys: Best Bruce Lee film (not including Enter the Dragon)?
i know the Kill Bills were made as one film, but I just can't help liking Vol 1, so much more than Vol 2.

there's only like 5 bruce lee films. all are worth watching. i like the big boss
I hated 14 blades too. didn't even watch it to the end

In tone they just felt so different.

It's the nature of any story arc, that's why it was unfortunate that they split it in two, but they really could not have cut much, and a 4 hour film wouldn't have much hope at the box office. I certainly liked the first more than the second, but the story demaded they get serious and wrap it up. Makes me want to check out Inglorius Bastards though.

IB is certainly worth it.
As regards Kill Bill, I didn't feel it got particularly serious in Vol 2. Vol 1 seemed like a perfect tribute to samurai/kung fu films. It offered a lot of what tarantino loved about those kinds of films. Vol 2 I felt was spoiled by including elements (which although have come to be considered Tarantino trade marks) were unnecessary in this case and actually detracted from it. Things like drawn out inconsequential dialogue sequences. Also felt the final showdown (or no show) was a let down (especially compared to the Lucy Liu fight).

Never seen any in its entirety.

I like The Big Boss. It progresses like a cheesy game story, but the action's top-notch. There's a lead-up before Lee actually is involved in the action which amplifies it because he's so ridiculous fast compared to everyone else.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileI agree on Big Boss.
EDIT:
Shit, of course I forgot, Fist of Fury rules them all.
Just saw this. Pretty good movie, it's a kidnap story that is good-ish for the most part but it's elevated by a couple of clever plot twists.
Just ordered these films. We'll see if it's worth it.
The Gallants
It's one of my favourite Aardman shows.
Holy crap, I did not know there was a film! I Need to see this...
