Saw this.

Actually, suprisingly awesome. Imagine what a teenage girl would do if she could leap through time and correct all the bad luck she's had in life? It's hilarious at times but also dramatic too. I wasn't intending on watching it all in one sitting but it kept me intrigued right to the end of the film and even had a really good plot revelation near the end.

Hollywoods needs to snap this up for a live action remake, it almost reminded me of those Disney movies like the Shaggy Dog.

I just started to watch The Wire, its on Directv now. Only two episodes in and I already feel so frustrated about the entire police system and the department shown on the show. Holy crap, I really hope the reality isn't like this but I assume it is.

I've been watching this and am almost through the first season.  I think this is too limited of an evaluation.  The frustration that comes through, the problems that arise, every aspect of the series is endemic not of the police system or the drug war, but humanity as a whole.  This is how people are, these are the results.  Integrity is an afterthought, and it shows, and that part most definitely is reality.

A tale of two movies.

I saw two films over the weekend, sort of similar in situations in terms of the setting, but thematically very different movies. One was The Expendables, an action movie about a mercenaries team. The other Hotel Rwanda, a drama film about the courage of one man that lead to the safety of hundreds of refugees. In the Expendables I believe there was some government that was oppressing the people, I don't even remember if it was clear, there were bad people and they had to be stopped. In Hotel Rwanda a history of segregation leads to one half of the population exterminating the other half, based only on what group you were born into. In The Expendables a small group of mercenaries goes in and kill all the bastards, save the counrty and everyone lives happily ever after. In Hotel Rwanda genocide occurs and the rest of the world doesn't give three shits, a million people die and the rest of the world simply says "oh that is terrible" and they go about their buisness.

The sad thing is that Hotel Rwanda is a true story. That got me thinking, why is it that I love these silly action movies so much. Why would I rather watch that than a serious drama film. Maybe its because in the silly fake action movie I know the hero is going to win. I know that the bad guy is going to get what they deserved. I know that many of the innocent people will be saved by someone. But that is not reality is it. Nope, horrible things happen in this world and many turn their back, there are no nearly super human heroes out there that will come to the rescue of those who will need it.

Watching Hotel Rwanda was depressing, I sat their flabbergasted at how the UN couldn't do nothing, or how every country just turned their back on the people of that country. I was disgusted of what man is capable of, the murder of other people because they got attached some random label at birth. I so wanted all those genocidal murderers to be butchered, I wanted a team lead by Stallone to come in and blow some heads off (I realize the irony of solving a genocide by murdering a bunch of people, but what are you going to do, talk to them?). It would have been fake and kind of stupid but at least it would been a some what happy ending, at least the bad guys got what they deserved. Of course that is not reality.

The good thing about Hotel Rwanda is that the movie is about a real life hero. It focuses on the good in the middle of something horrific. Don Cheadle's character can't take down a small army by himself, he is just a normal man. His courage and his determination saved the lives of hundreds of people. The movie was incredible, the story is extremely powerful but be prepared cause it is depressing, it is a strong movie.

Hotel Rwanda is easily the better movie of the two, I am not trying to say other wise. I saw two movies with a situation that was kind of similar handled very differently. I normally prefer to see the fake movie, the one where good always conquers evil. Sadly the real world isn't always like that.

(Oh and Expendables was awesome as well. It's not one of the greatest action movies ever, but it is one of the best ones to come out in recent years. It's not pussyfied, its real manly hard R action, with great fights, incredible setpieces and a terrific cast of stars. The biggest issue I would say is that the cast isn't handled as well in other ensemble action movies, like say Predator.)

Vader these movies are important to watch. You remind me of my mother who refuses to watch things which might upset her. I tell her that it's important that people watch these things to raise awareness of important issues.

Does it involve a dog? Cause dog movies make me cry. And the end of the LOTR for whatever reason.

True story, Armaggedon made me tear up.

The other night I watched Munich.  It's a very interesting film based on facts about the Mossad agent (and his team) who discovered and killed all the palestinians involved in Black September (the murder of 11 members of the Israeli team who went to Munich for the 1972 Olympics).  It helped me understand why neither side is confident of reaching a lasting peace deal even as their leaders are supposedly going in committed to a new line of talks toward that.

Tonight I watched "Kick-Ass" after a friend's recommendation.  It was rather pleasant but nothing really special.
