No impact for me (I still have to work as my industry is "essential") other than what Foolz said, "The only downside so far is the hysterical panic buying"

I'm pissed off beyond belief about the econonic harms this is having on people. It's so stupid.

Economic harms of panic buying?  like what?  People dying hungry while sat upon their huge stash of toilet paper?

He may be referring to the millions of hackers who just crashed Centrelink's website. But the panic buying has also meant that the people I know who couldn't afford to buy food from restaurants now have to buy food from restaurants because shopping centre shelves are always empty. That and they also now have less cash flow to pay for the more expensive food they're forced to buy, as well.

But, theoretically, you could also end up with many of those millions of Centrelink hackers with millions of their unworking family members in hospital, or at home without hospital care, and their non-essential service jobs disappearing just as easily due to the discouraging effect on lesure activities an uncontrolled exponential spread would probably have. Life is unfair, what're you gonna do?

Ah, I hadn't understood that the 2 sentences were unrelated.

It's really that bad there in Australia?  Stores still have ample supply here, although the impression of shortages is created by the fact that stores can't restock their shelves fast enough.

The more I hear such stories, the more I come to appreciate how well things are sorted over here.  Basic hospital care is handled by the state, so even if you lose your job you're still pretty well covered.

Work is giving us some relief from paying fees. But it still means no income for weeks/months

Depends on where you are here, I'd say; some people I know in different suburbs haven't had as much difficulty doing grocery shopping. The whole thing has been a massive propaganda fail, so it's no surprise that there have been big distribution issues. Healthcare is universal, so other than the strain placed on the system by the virus itself, that shouldn't be an issue. Centrelink is massively understaffed for the normal amount of people on the dole, so the influx of millions into the system will have a big impact on those of them who relied on their next pay cheque for basic needs. I also doubt the popular attitude (and certainly the attitude of everyone working at Centrelink and the government itself) that anyone on any form of welfare is some form of bludger is likely to change any time soon, either lol; all the more need for a proper propaganda campaign. Oh well. In any case, it wouldn't surprsie me if the suicide rate went up a few notches.

I agree with all of what you said Foolz.

Serperate statement, this is a massive abuse of power toward what end I don't know. Maybe if Greta got the job done properly we would not have had to move onto the escalated program. Anyway, congrats everyone involved RESET accomplished.

The food situation here is ridiculous. Govt orders shutdown because of a lethal and highly infectious virus. So everybody is elbow to elbow in supermarkets in a mob stripping the shelves. So govt tells us to order food online, websites are shutdown, or wont let you register because of demand. Or have no delivery slots and also, click and collect has no slots either.

So guess what, everyone will go out to the shops elbow to elbow fighting like dogs to grab food and spreading the virus more.

Oh get this one. Government says that go outside and you'll die, cancels every public event and on Saturday we have a fucking state-wide election for local councils that has not been cancelled! Keep in mind in Australia it is MANDATORY to vote and you are fined if you do not. So they are going to force every single citizen to file through concentrated areas and all use touch screens to vote!

I think they are going to have the lowest turnout ever and I think a lot of people who do vote will donkey vote (the process of spoiling your ballot, or writing in "Mickey Mouse" as a candidate). I have for years spoiled my vote by voting 33 for every candidate (we have preferential voting) due ot the lack of candidates or parties that are sufficient to govern this amazing country.

The messaging of going ahead with the electiion is basically saying to the electorate, "All sports are banned, funerals are banned, weddings are banned, bars are closed, fuck the consequences, but oh hey, Please Vote, it's important.

I don't htink I've been so pissed off in over a decade over this level of tone deafness that serves nothing but our elites egos.

Lockdown except for critical businesses (healthcare, grocery, etc). I work in the medical device industry, so I believe I'm still working today. I'll find out in an hour.

Edit: Yep I'm still working. 👍

I'm suffering heavily due to Corona for the moment.  I was in dire need of a haircut 3 weeks ago and matters aren't improving.  The wife has opted to take matters in her own hands, but so far I've been able to stave her off.  cool

I'm wondering if congress plans to get out a second stimulus sooner rather than later.

The sheer amount of conspiracy theories regarding the virus and it's origins is just disturbing.   Half the people on social media believe Bill Gates  engineered the virus to create panic  and when the shot is available, it'll secretly have microchips that will be injected into your body so that he can monitor your whereabouts.  Also, Dr. Fauci is deep state.

Sadly none of that surprises me. There are people who still believe that the Earth is flat after all.
