Surely deserving of its own thread. And while it might seem that I should be the last person to make it, I did genuinely like Episode 2, so I'm as annoyed as anyone else there wasn't an Episode 3.

Considering that this is VR and seemingly a spin-off, will it be a mini-game compilation? Light-gun? Or anti-gravity beat saber?

Will it even come out?

I predict the entire thing will actually be a virtual reality shopping platform.

It may just be a rebranding of their VR mode.

Gets a big “meh” from me. I’m not some huge fan of the Half-Life games. I enjoyed them back in the day but I don’t hold them as some great pinnacle of gaming. While I’m not chomping at the bit for a HL3 I wouldn’t be entirely disinterested if one were to get made. I am totally disinterested in VR though so this will get a pass for me.

This is just about as negative as it gets from you. Almost like Dvader giving Half Life 2 a 6/10.

But I expect Dvader to play this VR game on his Oculus 5000 & proclaim it the greatest VR demo of all time.

I couldn’t hold back and gave it both barrels. 😂

So, judging by the trailer, I'm thinking it's going to be a mixture of light puzzle solving, light horror stealth, and light (gun) shooting sections, perhaps dynamically combined; just as likely, split up into mini-games. Nyaa

Honestly, it looks kinda intriguing. It's also good to have confirmation that this is not Half-Life 3 by any stretch of the chronological imagination.

It's also interesting that you're going to be playing as a character for the first time in the Half-Life series!

Looks good. I wonder if it'll ever be released on Playstation VR.

That's the first thing I thought of. Would be a good VR seller for Sony.

As it is VR, I have no interest at all. Maybe Portal 3 will be Kinect exclusive.

Its not mini games, it is A FULL HALF LIFE GAME IN VR. I know you nonb VR people wish it was some stupid game you can ignore but it wont be. It will be a new classic and I will be all over it! Nyaa

There are so many full VR games coming out now and Valve does not play around. This will be incredible.

A few weeks ago I was tussling with my nephew in the back yard and produced a plastic lawnmower. I started doing wrestling moves and announcing myself as "The Lawnmower Man!".  I was proud, reference was totally lost on the 7 year old n00b. Nyaa

Can not think of a more shittier combination to represent the death of fun in video games than VR and First Person Shooters. As if the damage done to the genre by those shitty gamepads wasn't enough.

Heaven forbid we get better controls. I'm sure all these soldiers would love to use a KB and mouse rather than actually aim their gun.

You wouldn't get better controls either way. You didn't get them when you got the game pad shooters, notice how the genre got slower, hitscan weapons became even more prominent, cover shooters became more of a thing, leading your shot is barely a thing, hitboxes are large as hell, etc, etc, etc.

VR doesn't solve anything, because it would be solving shit that has never been an issue. FPS aiming on a mouse is fluid as hell, a quick play session of Dsync or Doom WADs like Sunlust or Plutonia highlight there are tons of abstract concepts worth exploring in 3D free look shooters. Hell 6DoF shooters in general are wildly unexplored. And that all would work perfectly fine on buttons and a mouse. Motion control for aiming is just a less good mouse, and VR by nature doesn't have the same micro movements games with analog or keyboards have, in fact often, these games have to teleport you around to keep you from getting sick or they do the bare minimum n let you headtrack in mirror's edge while the rest of the game is played like any other PC shooter. So hooray they put a screen on your face.

For all the "cool' factor of Superhot on VR, there is the part where Superhot is even more on rails on VR, and I don't exactly think of the PC version as some rich sandbox, but moving yourself from place to place plays a significant role in a lot of the challenges (especially the post game challenges most people don't play).

Realism is not some end all be all worth chasing, VR much like the last time we got motion controls, is a cute little parlor trick that works at the expense of of the stuff that was already great on the established controllers. The thing that would work better on it, would be the stuff motion controls are at least sort of good at, and FPS aint one of them.

And you know what fuck this enough, that I got more of a rant in me.

Fuck Half Life 2 and double fuck Alyx. Not because they made her cute, tho, sure, but because her place as a good video game character or good character in general is some of the most unearned shit. Her entire character is written to be nothing more than just constantly giving the player a pat on the back. God you're so cool gordon, you're so smart gordon, man you have a thicc cock gordon, she has no fucking goals n shit in life other than wanting to smash and please the player. For all her less sexualized aesthetic, she is one of the most submissive characters one will deal with in a video game, and she's a fucking jinx in the story with the constant "wow that was almost bad" and........oh look the fucking city exploded as soon as you said that shit btch, and Valve? Lets ignore the fact that they made the ballistics worse from half Life 1, and the enemy soldier Ai worse from half life 1, and played a significant role in ruining video games with the forced walking (albeit not as bad as what Remedy created), all of that could have been forgiven (well not the walking), if it weren't for the fact that Half Life 2 is this inane string of change of pace scenarios that the less enlightened than Gagan the magnificent would praise for, ahem "variety", but eating shit as usual is not enjoying variety, it's enjoying shit.

So much of Half Life 2 would be better if they just embraced the core loop of the game and kept building around that (in fact it does, when they make Episode 2, who fucking knew?), but the lion's share of that game is here is this dumb stupic mechanics (a boat, an ant control device, some dumb ass car), here is this long winded part where we teach you the gimmick, here is a puzzle, here is a slightly improved challenge, here is a real challenge where you almost have fun. Okay cool next level lets restart the process from 1. The only thing more overrated in the history of this fucking medium are video game stories and Rockstar games. Fuck Half Life 2, and you think those goons are going to bring fun back into a FPS with VR? Pls The Burger King games would have been better VR games. #BringBackSneakKing
