So why have elemental abilities at all. I am just finding a few things  to be a bit messy in the combat side. FF games have always been very elegant, very structured, everything is well explained and has a purpose. Here there are already to many arts you dont use, you have no control of your AI partners, elements that dont do anything. There is no enemy encyclopedia that tells you what their weaknesses and strengths are, that has always been a big part of JRPGs.

Question about having more than 3 in your party, does the character sitting out still get exp or is it one of those games where I will have to sub them in to get them exp.

There are more characters that use them. The elements are not that important right now. Read the tutorials they are pretty clear, except for gem crafting.

And yes everyone gets exp, don't worry about that.

Sweet. I just discovered the present sharing, nice way to raise affinity between characters. Did you find yourself putting in certain team members just so that their affinity could be raised?

I just hit the 6 hour mark and wow I wasn't expecting that. I'm really enjoying this game. Combat and music are great.

Swept up some quests and am in a beatiful new area. I am seeing more and more yellow enemies, they are a blast to fight. Oh and the King Squeeze quest was awesome, I want more like that. I wish TES had a system like the affinity in place, it would greatly help flesh out the NPCs. TES strength are those individual stories you encounter throughout the world but so many feel like basic fetch quests and once you are done its basically over. The world doesn't feel like it grows.  But sadly Xenoblade doesnt tell the interesting stories that TES does and the presentation is terrible, its just text boxes and when you talk to someone everyone else vanishes. No animations, just standing and text boxes. So if they would just merge the two we would have something totally awesome, like Majora's Mask.

Yes, but the affinity rises way too slowly. But there is a trick to raise it quickly

No one did, but there are even more twist and turns you will never see coming. Good thing you find the music great, I was going to punch you for just calling it solid.

I have one quest for a boss that I beat before I got the quest and it never spawns anymore so the quest seems unbeatable. Its in the bird mage, tirkin or whatever, headquarters.

I am thinking way ahead on this one but at what point should I start to look at a faqs for secrets. I have found many JRPGs have crazy insane secrets that you would never find without a guide and I heard this game is no different. Should I focus on the story first then mess around when it is done or is there something that I should be looking out for now that may help later on. I dont want to find that I needed like 50 of some item I had that I sold or some crap.

I'm now 9 hours in and so much awesome in this game like music, combat, voice-acting, unique monsters to fight, etc. Right now I'm at the start of these vast plains on my way to Colony 6. I love all the side stuff you can do in this game like the various quests and jobs you can do for people, trying to find all the collectibles in each area, raising your affinity levels, achievements, etc. I can see myself putting in a lot of time into this game.

Best way to raise affinity is when taking on quests. So if you see a NPC with a ! over their head, swap your team out for people who you want to bond. Then when they take the quest and chit chat, and also when you finish a quest by returning to a character with a ! over their head, that works too.

There is some good stuff but yeah they could use some Zelda style camera swoop in and some animation. You have to zoom the camera in point blank to even see in detail what some of the characters look like.

The only thing you have to worry about is that some areas become closed off at certain points in the story and you cannot return. The first hurdle is Bionis Leg they will ask you a specific question, say no if you are not done with that regions quests. The other cut off points are miles away.

All the unique named monster will respawn after a while. You can even force it by saving and reloading.

If your quest has a timer, than it can be something that will eventually be locked out. If you do a quest and you see a vision, then that means that you have a choice. Making one choice will lock out the other choice. For instance two people want the same item, you can only give it to one. Giving it to one person, will lock out the quest the other person gave you.

If you enter an area where all the quest have timers, then it means that after a time something will happen that will prevent you going there. The area might be locked out for story reason for example.

If you get to an area and some quests have timers, but there are no visions, then it means that the area the quest takes place in will be locked away. For example someone might ask you to get an item from another area. If you see a clock here, that area will lock out soon.

The area you are in know has lots of timers, but you actually are given a choice to lock out the area. The other areas are much further along. I will warn you when the time comes.

^Yeah that one is hard to find. You need it to be a warm day. You recognize this by the heat wave and he is not at the Eks watering hole. He walks the path next to it a level below. He looks like that dinosaur with fire on its back.

I just acquired the Monada and I feel like a freakin' Jedi Master with this sword in my hands.   I do like the combat, reminds me a lot of the combat in Kingdom Heats.  Man, I want a proper KH game on a console.

Back to the topic, Iga, you mentioned losing Renyn(sp), but how will I know who to trade him out for? I'm getting very little hands on time with this game, four hours so far since Saturday, but I have enjoyed it quite a lot.  I'm bookmarking those two links that GG had above.

It's pretty obvious who to swap out, don't worry. I like Reyn though, he's a damage sponge that just sits there and takes heat so you can whop enemies in the back with Shulks back slash move which is badass and powerful once you level it up and unlike the monado buster, you can use it often.

Jedi?! You guys have no clue what the true power of the monado is. No clue at all. Not even GG.

It is obvious, but Reyn actual has his uses. He is great at drawing aggro from mobs. The healer you wil get soon, needs to be replaced as soon as possible. No need for a healer in this game, unless you do not know what you are doing.

Alright. Question. Games like this I tend to get swept up in doing quest after quest after quest. Around the 4 or 5 hour mark, that event happens where that certain somone gets skewered and you decide to go to Colony 6 for information. I am now around hour 8.5 or so and I STILL have not left Colony 9. I just keep on doing quests, receiving more quests, doing more, receiving more, etc. I am raising Reyn and Shulks Affinity doing this, and I'm getting a good amount of money and equipment --BUT-- Is there a point in this game where you can get TOO overpowered by doing too many side-quests? Can you OVER-level by doing too many side-quests?

I ask this because this is EXACTLY what happend with Kingdoms of Amalur for me. I was doing so many Side/Faction Quests that the game became STUPIDLY easy, even on Hard! Should you leave side-quests for later and go back with other characters in your party too, so you can raise THEIR affinity? Or do you complete all the Quests in one area, move on to the next, complete Quests there, then move on, etc...?
