I want a boxed copy (versus PC). So is one console edging out the other at all? I only want to play single player mode.

I have a boxed PC copy. But for consoles, doesn't the PS4 always win?

Depends on where the bottlenecks are. PS4 will commend the resolution advantage, but if a game leans heavily on the CPU, the Xbone could produce a better framerate.
This game is close to excellent, its getting there. I just got to hell and its feeling more and more like Doom with every level. The level design is great, maps are very verticle, loads of paths, so much better than linear FPS shit we normally get. The action is super fun when you are flooded with demons and using all your weapons. Its just the arena style combat rooms kind of feel disjointed. Like I said before I miss the feeling of old doom where exploring and killing enemies were together. The combat arenas are like 5 minute bursts of amazing and they come quickly but that split between exploration and combat doesnt work for me well. I wanted that thrill of hanging on to a bit of life looking around the level then opening a door and seeing a ton of fireballs launched at you, ahhh run away. That feeling.
But its still great, its so great to have a FPS with good level design and crazy run and gun action. Oh and snap map is like LBP for Doom! Some really cool user levels in there. Those give me the kind of challenge I was looking for. The total package is fantastic.

I'll get it for whatever consoles I can get it cheaper on in a couple weeks (when I am done with Ratchet and UC4).
Doom reviews are kind of disappointing, sucks cause this deserves lots of attention. Doom 3 was this mega gaming event, I feel this game is a fart in the wind in comparison and it's so much better than Doom 3. Now the only media the game is getting is some ok scores, there are plenty of 9s but lots of negative ones too. Multiplayer is bad, fine, who cares. This campaign is pretty damn sweet even if it can be classified as repetitive. Old doom can be repetitive too, but it's super fun.
I don't think this is a GOTY candidate or anything but it's one of the best FPSs in years.

All I want is something on par with Bulletstorm or the latest Wolfenstein.
I only popped it on for a few mintues because I want to finish Tomb Raider, but the graphics are sweet. I like how they changed up the art style a bit from D3. Also pretty surprised I can basically get max settings and run it smooth. I had to tone down Rise of the Tomb Raider's texture work because it was crashing my frame rate. But Doom seems to run fine all the way up.

It's an 80 man, that's pretty positive. In a real medium that would be a high score.

It was mid 70 when I wrote that, 80s is good.

Mid 70s would be high score in a real medium also though lol. The game simply doesn't have enough reviews if anything, but the word of mouth is pretty positive. I'm sure it'll do about as well as most gameplay driven games do. Well enough that the buzz is positive, but below the higher tier review scores reserved for overly cinematic badly written video game tripe parading themselves around as competent video games, aka a Naughty Dog game.
i have heard nothing but positive on the game.
PC - not sure if my rig will hang with it. PS4 apparetnly has a 47 GB patch!!
Anyone playong on XB1? patch infos?
Destructoid gave it a 9/10!
Patch is 5gigs for PS4, AussieBro, not 50! I think you missed a decimal point somewhere!

The game itself is a 40ish gig install, so that's probably what you're downloading on the PS4...the actual game.
Wow this is DOOM!!! Super fast paced, they nailed the feel, the music. The maps are not linear hallways! Secrets galore, color keys, its pretty damn sweet. I am still very early on so the action is pretty standard, just fast paced in your face running and gunning. No reload button, no downsights, no run button. There are loads of upgrades to collect so it makes exploring for secrets have a purpose.
Now I am going to get into some advanced analysis that I probably should not do 2 hours in. As awesome as this so far its still not as fun as old doom. I got to thinking why is that, then I thought of how the encounters have been so far. In doom 4 most major battles happen when you enter a room and that large room gets flooded with enemies> you run around and kill everything then you go about exploring till the next room. Old doom mixed enemies with the exploration perfectly, your goal was to find your way through the maze but to do so you had to battle demons that were trying to stop you. That balance created the formula of doom. Here it feels like two separate elements, you fight, then you explore. That totally changes the feel of the game.
Again very early on for me to be coming to any conclusions but that is my initial feelings. It is the closest thing to doom anyone has made in years.
