I hate Ibuki... why do they keep bringing her back? I can only assume its for spank material.

I'm surprised Q and Oro didn't make a return yet. They were two of the most unique characters the series has seen. Plus they're opposite ends of the spectrum. Oro requires tons of technique while Q is just a simple button masher character that totally appeals to the casual audience. Kind of surprised we haven't seen Maki again either. She showed up once in a handheld version of SFA 3. Could be a fun to give her a chance to find a wider audience.

But no they fucking bring back Ibuki....

RESURRECTION!

This image seems appropriate now that I've put in some time into Street Fighter V. I've got thoughts and I"ll be sharing.

So anyway the game is very damn good, and also frustrating for what it could have been. The actual fighting in SFV is probably the best the series has ever seen. The fighters are as well balanced as they've ever been. Emphasis on super-ultra-moves from SFIV has been removed and it's more about technique, though not to the extent of SFIII. Its pretty accessible to anyone who is willing to learn the basic movies.  Unfortunately they mess up on a lot of other places as far as what the game has to offer.

Capcom's logic that most people ultimately spend their time with the online fighting battles is no doubt correct, but the lack of the traditional world tour of combat really hurts. You lose a lot of the training that helps you learn about your character and how to use them against other. You can practice again the CPU, but I kind of feel that removing a pay-off of an ending or individual story kind of takes away the incentive a little bit of playing. And of course there is Survival mode that kind of mirrors the old mode, but it takes a while for the challenge to ramp up, the battles only last one round, and you have to also juggle the points for bonuses and your healthbar which doesn't refresh after each battle. It's fine for it's own thing, but it definitely doesn't measure up to the traditional world tour.

Then there's the story mode. It offers a few cool moments (the end in particular brings back a very familiar face), but overall it's pretty bad. Sad that Capcom decided they needed to compete with Netherealm. Lord knows they didn't measure up.

Anyway even with its' many faults it still ultimately comes back to the fighting and the roster and right now SFV fucking owns that. The new characters so far are kind of forgettable, but the rest of the main roster was really strong in who they brought back (woo-hoo BIRDIE!!!). The season 1 pack was great (Juri is so remarkably improved it's ridiculous), and the season 2 guys are looking good so far with Akuma and the Kolin chick. I'll update as I try more characters. Sadly the fight money gimmick is a bit oversold. It's tough to earn it after you go through the stories, but hopefully I still average a character or two a month.

Always love a Gill resurrection even though I can't play the game yet. Sad
