I'm not that good at the game. The Japanese can still asshand me but I have played many times against all Japanese teams and still come out with the high score. I hate snipers the most.
If I want to win and score well in turf wars I use my favourite weapon, but sometimes I find it boring. If I play for fun I choose anything and don't mind getting lower scores.
For ranked battles I just avoid losing points by avoiding stages (port mackeral) and modes (splatzones) where I'm not very good and concentrating on ones I am good at.
Some tips for you guys - recon the levels from the lobby menu, learn what you can do and how fast, what surfaces you can ink up or ones where you can't. Learn how far you can get into a level from the start while building up your special before encountering the enemy. That can make the difference between an early kill or an early death.
Experiment with all weapons and all stages, some weapons are awesome for some maps and useless for others. Travo, I notice you guys use the Splat roller or some form of roller? You used to be able to be a powerful dominant player with a splat roller but the 2nd update have nerfed them.
So your best bet is the carbon roller for fast movement. With it you can outrun anyone else and run so fast you can run straight over mines. But it runs out of ink pretty fast so equip an ink saver main item. At least one.
It's good on stages with a lot of ground to cover like Kelp dome and even port mackeral sometimes you can run so fast behind enemy lines.
For the regular carbon roller, use the splat bombs for distance kills - 3 of them kill the average player, you can fire off 4 from a full tank. And the inkzooka is great for taking out snipers far away.
The other Carbon roller has the seeker which is a great weapon, especially the multiple seeker special which is just about the only unavoidable special in the whole game. And that might be a better option for your kids too. Using a single seeker eats up a lot of ink so fire from a good distance away then move or people can trace back to your position.
Vader you seem like a very good player, no 1 on each match if I wasn't there. I saw you use the Splash-or-Sploosh-omatic? Those guns are pretty much unbeatable at close range so running full pelt at the bad guys is a good idea. You get screwed by people with longer range weapons though.
On equipment, I did those tests - you can check earlier pages of this thread for the results. You can choose to either equip items to mitigate a weapons deficit - like ink saver main for a weapon that runs out of ink too fast. Or you can use equipment to enhance what a weapon does well already. Both work.
I prefer enhancing.
Also just a note, the Splattershot is one of the best balanced weapons in the game. Also don't discount the Jr, many pro-Japanese players use it for the bubbleshield which can be shared when touching another character. I would avoid all brushes except the Octobrush as you will never score highly enough and if you team has another inkbrush or sniper on the team your team will only have 2 players capable of inking a lot.
Blasters generally bog down your movement too much but are good for confined areas. The Slosher is great for levels with high bits and low bits.
Now, I need more pain gel.
Oh yeah for ranked battles, rainmaker, tower control and on dual splatzones, it's not always about how far you can get the tower/rainmaker into enemy territory.
Or about taking the enemy splatzone (if there are two of them).
If the rainmaker or tower never reaches the end goal the match is won by whomever keeps the tower or rainmaker further away from their own spawn point. So you can set up little ambush points and sit and wait and be an unbreakable rock. It's easier for tower control. Also do recon as the maps subtley change in ranked battles from turf wars.
For dual splatzones, the timer only runs down when both areas are held. So instead of rushing off to take the enemy splatzone, if you can instead quickly re-ink your own splatzone you can break the chain of ownership and essentially lock the other team out. It doesn't always work, but when it does it works well.
Ah, flipping heck. Had a bad match on piranha pit, got caught on the escalators. When the match ended I saw there were only two people on my team. And I still got the high score of 1340 without the win bonus.
Sorry Gg, I lost my internet connection. I may be back on in an hour or two.
I've got a killer tip for the rollerskate park stage on splat zones: head for the furthest splat zone, claim it and hide in the corner. You'll be harder to winkle out than a tick from your winkle and you'll be able to defend the whole zone by yourself. Also, in Saltspray Rig, ink the vertical tubes next to the 'elevators' it's much faster to travel up this way and I have no one ever seen doing this other than me. Not even the mighty GG, although he'll claim otherwise.

Blackberry skate park with a slosher is hilarious.
I am blown away at the level of stupidity of some people. I am playing rainmaker and these fucking morons have no clue what to do. It took me one match to figure it out. Wtf is wrong with these stupid fucks!!!!!!!! I create a perfect path for you, where there are no enemies and the shortest route to the goal and they run off the other direction into battle!!! Wtwtfwwhshsjsjshksjdj!!!!!
One dude got the rainmaker and just stood in place, next to our goal!!!!! Get it away from the goal!
Morons!!!!!!

Rank B-!!!! Damn the competition got so much better. I lost three matches in a row when I started. Some rainmaker battles are insane, I love it. The campaign is pretty awesome too. The ranking system, the leveling up, it's all perfect. The map rotation is about the only moronic thing about the game.
So glad you are enjoying this.
LOL
Fun matches, though we got stuck on the Warehouse like 5 times in a row. I got a new high score, 1830 on turf wars.
