  • The first video game you ever played:  Ms. Pac-Man. My neighbors had a stand-up arcade unit of it in their basement, and when I was four this was the game that launched my own Pac-Man fever.
  • The first game you bought with your own money: Pretty sure this was Rush'n'Attack for the NES. It's possible that it was Robocop  though and I've since blocked the details out of my memory.
  • The first co-op game you played: I'm going to guess Contra. It's possible there was an Atari game that offered co-op but I don't remember for sure.
  • The first head-to-head/verses game you played: Like most other Atari 2600 owners, the answer is Combat.
  • The first game you played online: Diablo. Played with some real asshole player-killers too.
  • The first game that made you go, "whoa.... this is something special.": Super Mario Bros. I blame that game for making me what I am today.
  • The first game that made you go, "what a piece of shit! This is the worst thing since anal warts!": Jaws for the NES. It was so terrible. . . why was it ever made?

  • The first video game you ever played: Breakout (Atari 2600) Late 1979
  • The first game you bought with your own money: I believe Commando Raid (Atari 2600) was the first game I bought myself.
  • The first co-op game you played: Mario Bros. (Atari 2600)
  • The first head-to-head/verses game you played: Combat (Atari 2600)
  • The first game you played online: Quake 2 (PC)
  • The first game that made you go, "whoa.... this is something special.": Breakout (Atari 2600)
  • The first game that made you go, "what a piece of shit! This is the worst thing since anal warts!": Raiders of the Lost Ark (Atari 2600)

  • The first video game you ever played: Solitair.
  • The first game you bought with your own money: Almost certainly not one by itself. And not legally. The first game that I imagine kicked off my collection of genuine games: Metal Gear Solid 2 special edition for the ludicrously low price of $50, though it certainly wasn't the first genuine copy I bought. I bought it for the Zone of Enders demo and the shiny case, even though I'd already finished my pirated version. Piracy was fucking awesome before you could just download games off the internet, by the way. It was like having a drug dealer or something equally romantic.
  • The first co-op game you played: Not that they had a co-op mode, but Donkey Kong Country or Busby the Bobcat. Or that Pac-Man platforming game on the Game Boy.
  • The first head-to-head/verses game you played: Killer Instinct probably.
  • The first game you played online: On console: Halo 2. On PC: Doom or Quake LAN?
  • The first game that made you go, "whoa.... this is something special.": In what context? That gaming is special? In that case: Minesweeper.
  • The first game that made you go, "what a piece of shit! This is the worst thing since anal warts!": None ever genuinely have. And speak for yourself: I personally have no experience to compare the two. WinkWink But Half-Life was the first game that demonstrated that a first person shooter wasn't automatically good, unlike every other FPS I'd played before it. Does that count?

  • The first video game you ever played: No clue, had to be something at the arcades like centipede or galaga. I used to go to a chuck e cheese like place growing up and they had a bunch of arcades and I know I played some before I had an NES.
  • The first game you bought with your own money: Well is this question bought with money I earned in a job or money given as a birthday gift cause the first game I bought after someone was like here have money was TMNT3. First game I paid for with a paycheck... um I have no clue, was late PS1 era though.
  • The first co-op game you played: Two player game or playing on the same screen at the same time. Mario was the first two player game and at the same time was probably something like Double Dragon.
  • The first head-to-head/verses game you played: Double Dribble or Ice Hockey or Blades of Steel or California Games
  • The first game you played online: I might have played some old FPS at a friends house online but in terms of true me sit down and go online cause I wanted to, that would be NFL2K1
  • The first game that made you go, "whoa.... this is something special.": Super Mario Bros, of course.
  • The first game that made you go, "what a piece of shit! This is the worst thing since anal warts!": Total Recall

  • The first video game you ever played:

Sprint 1 by Kee Games (the Atari shell corporation). I was 5 and a bunch of teenagers (think the cast of that 70's show) paid the 20 cents at the local cafe (convenience store if you will) and let me play. It had a big steering wheel and I remember it vividly.

  • The first video game you ever played:
Probably Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt that came with the NES my parents got me.  I was 3 back then, so I can't say I clearly recall any of it.  Other then that I would jump every time I pressed the jump button Nyaa
  • The first game you bought with your own money:
Some SNES game no doubt...  I can't really even remember what SNES games I owned
  • The first co-op game you played:
Rescue Rangers on the NES.  Such a fun game.
  • The first head-to-head/verses game you played:
Wouldn't know...  Balloon fight?  Dr. Mario?
  • The first game you played online:
Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii?   some PC version of X-wing vs Tie fighter
  • The first game that made you go, "whoa.... this is something special.":
The Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past
  • The first game that made you go, "what a piece of shit! This is the worst thing since anal warts!":
I don't think I ever played games that were just downright terrible.  Of course, I am asuming that anal warts are really bad.  If they're only moderately bad, I would say F-zero GP legend, because it was such a disgrace to the series.

Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy (GBA) Oh man... I had forgotten about the Sypro GBA games. One of the only video games my wife ever liked was the original Spyro triology, and I thought was going to turn her into a full-fledged gamer by getting her one of the GBA games (I've forgotten which one). The result was she almost never touched another game for the rest of her life.

Oh and I may have to edit my list. I'd forgotten about it, but the first game I've actually ever played was a Pong knock-off console from Radio Shack. It played 6 different games and they were all variations of Pong.

  • The first video game you ever played: arcade Pac-Man
  • The first game you bought with your own money: Castlevania III. Technically I didn't buy it, but I rented it and then forgot to return it. Everything snowballed from there until it reached a point where the owner of the rental store came to my house to ask for the money I owed him. I had to sell a bunch of stuff to pay him back.
  • The first co-op game you played: Arcade Golden Axe, I was Tyris Flare and my buddy was Gilius Thunderhead.
  • The first head-to-head/verses game you played: Arcade Street Fighter. The first one where Ryu was a skinny redhead and nobody knew how to do hadoukens or shoryuukens. Everyone just mashed buttons until one of us was dead.
  • The first game you played online: Diablo.
  • The first game that made you go, "whoa.... this is something special.": SEGA's Time Traveller arcade cabinet. It was nothing more than a scam, but boy did it look amazing back then. We would gather round to watch someone playing it for hours.
  • The first game that made you go, "what a piece of shit! This is the worst thing since anal warts!": E.T. (Atari 2600). I did the Picard "WTF is this shit" face way before he ever did. But my parents weren't made of money so I PLAYED THAT SHIT until my brain bled.

There you go.

Gunship. It was an AH-64 helicopter simulator from Microprose. I bought it, along with a Commodore 64 on the basis of the screenshots on the back of the box. I still have the box (and the computer and the box it came in).

The first game you played online:

Doom. I played it on a shitty-ass dial up connection with a friend abuot 30 miles away. It was one of the most mind blowing experience of my life. It was like an ant finding an unwrapped Snickers bar that had been chopped into ant sized pieces amenable to easy lifting.
