Well, I think another contributing factor are "whale" contributors like myself and the ones I described before.  I know when I first came here, I assumed that anything I saw was already posted by Geek or Iga.

The mind shift came for me when he pointed out that due to time differences I could actually post hours ahead of him.

Same thing with me now, by the time I wake up it's already 14:00 EST, and there are no stories up.  So, I dunno.  Maybe more granular posting stats by user/ by week? etc..  Just throwing up whatever I can think of.

Maybe also appealing to newshounds who hang out on other sites.

I think one reason for low click through could be due to the nature of video game news: most of it the title is all you need to read, and if not then it's often discussed on ggweekly!

Very true. A lot of the time, with the subtitles you can get all the required facts, it's not like we're covering the Supreme Court.  So click-thru is not a metric of community interest in the news board, good point.

I know we still have to address this so it's not so one-sided, but it bears mentioning: thank you leo, aspro, for all the news postings you've done despite the slack of the rest of us.

Don't post filler then Nyaa

I'm back to almost my old production, but yeah, I don;t start each day until around 14:00 your time, so I guess it could look empty b4 then.

I've proposed a + vote system for news in the past.  That kind of functionality is already built in with the "sort by popularity" feature.  I would not put a "-" vote in though, only leads to system wars.

Though it would be modified slightly if I ever get around to revamping it, but infamy-to-post ratios.  Sure, you could do the math, but may as well have it...somewhere.

For it to work you'd also have to weigh my votes lower Nyaa (10 Aspro +'s = 1 Yoda +)

I currently have a 17% approval rating Sad

I've tried and I can't find the math that works out to that.

^Oh you are right, it's only just under 6%.  Where's the famicon for slashing my wrists?

EDIT: and by posting this I'm just making it worse!

In my household we call that the "Pity Coin".  It's an expression we picked up from playing Mario Party 2 when they dole out the coins, and then come back and flip a single coin to the loser.

Problem with the news posting in the past is it was often used to promote certain people's own interests and to discredit other people's opinions. (Posting ONLY good reviews of certain titles, or posting ONLY negative reviews of titles that someone else was interested in, for example.)

You know, I don't get this. How on earth can you discredit other people's opinions by posting news? And you mentioned certain people, how about you grow a pair and start mentioning names? If you won't please keep the accusations (whatever they are) to yourself.

Executive decision: no more downvotes.  This includes past votes being counted, though I haven't destroyed the records.

I'm not opposed to the government protected people from themselves, so I'm going with this.  Ideally, we'd have a level of maturity that precludes animosity, but apparently that isn't the case.

I've had enough of the petty crap.

tl;dr this is why we can't have nice things
