And Galaxy felt like cohesive to you?! That was the greatest strength of Galaxy games, they were totally bonkers. You never knew what you were going to get. Cohesive Mario game, that is Sunshine and it was by far the worst.

They still had some themes like the snow levels, water levels, toy world, the space junk. I felt like you really explore each kind of area. Here its just non stop randomness.

STAR ROAD IS AMAZING!!!!
Why well big spoilers ahead, its because it basically becomes Super Mario Galaxy! When I heard that music I freaked, Also proof that Galaxy is just better.[/spoiler]

I'm sort of with you. There are themed worlds but it does feel less cohesive, for me it's the camera angles, the whole game is made of cutouts, there is nothing behind the camera when you turn it. So it feels less immersive, less real? The camera is so grounded to you never get that galaxy feeling where it messes with your sense of gravity.

Except it isnt as interesting as Galaxy.
I wasn't comparing it to Galaxy. I was comparing more to the rigid forumla of the NSMB series, which has become stale.
The Captain Toad levels are brilliant. I want more of those. DLC, please.

Amen to this. These are the perfect way to break up a level and keep the feel of the game going.
3 amazing levels so far, but most don't reach the dizzy peaks of Galaxys' high moments. It's still great though as a game.

Fun stuff, would be good as a 3DS game.
The visuals are so nice, loving the textures. That's no surprise considering how good the textures looked in Galaxy. The game is a blast, but of course, doesn't reach the epic ness of the Galaxy games. That's ok, this game will see a lot of play time between my son and myself.
This is so epic, spoiler warning:
I actually considered this one of the game's strengths. One of the big drawbacks with themed world is that inevitably there's a theme I hate. The Space Junk galaxy from Galaxy for instance. I hated it. Ice worlds and water worlds can be filed into that category as well. I wanted nothing more than to skip them because I just didn't like the theme, but its never really an option. This games doesn't tie you down like that, and I much prefer that.
