Where are you now?  What have you completed?  Or have you started again?  The game has a basic structure in that there is a sequence of things you have to do in order to progress with the story and finish it.  But it also gives you a lot of freedom in the order you do certain other things, and several areas and bosses are entirely otional.

The story progression is something like this.  First work your way up the castle to ring the bell on the Gargoyles tower and then down the sewers and into Blight Town to ring the second bell.  After that Seth's Fortress opens up and upon clearing that you are on to Anor Lando to kill Smough and Ornstein.  Then you need the souls of the four Lords.  In any order you please.  The Catacombs and farther down in the Tombs of Giants to get Nito's soul.  Duke's archives and Crystal Cave to get Scaleless Demon.  Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith to get to the bed of chaos.  Darkroot forest to kill Sif the wolf and pickup Covenant of Artorias then New Londo Ruins and down the Abyss to get the Four Kings (you can't enter the abyss without Artoria's covenant ring).  After that you can access the final boss.

Anything that isn't mentioned above is optional so there is no correct order of doing it.

Yeah I started over with the PC version. I just got to the gargoyle fight on the roof. He seems to have an issue with me being there.

So what patches did you use?  I'd really like to play this one day, but being a console gamer, having to patch in saving put me off from playing more than 20 minutes of it.  If you could point me in the right direction I'd be very gratefull.

I'm actually not using anything. I tried doing the DSfix patch but apparently it doesn't work anymore, or its very hard to get it to work because it made my game crash instantly. Honestly, the game is running fine for me anyway. I went into my nVidia Control Panel and told my card to force in all the graphics effects possible, then turned off AA in game so it didn't conflict with my nVidia settings. Nvidia has a feature where you can force the settings in each game individually. Seems to look a bit better than the PS3 version and runs just as good.

Only problem I had was actually using a 360 controller. Pushing the left stick forward would just make you walk instead of run.....easy fix for this turned out to be using the Xbox One controller instead, which works perfectly. One of the only games I've seen on PC where the Xbone pad actually works better than the 360 pad.

Just got past the Gaping Dragon. Once again I'm reminded of the condition in which I've left some women.

I thought I saw you were playing the exact same game I have, the Prepare to Die edition?  Game won't save for me.  Perhaps From Software patched it themselves, but I find that hard to believe.

Won't save? That fucking odd man....I have not had that particular problem at all. Saves every time I go to a bonfire, or it saves my exact spot if I quit out of a game.

Just checked Steam, we both have the same game.  I'll have to try the game out again sometime soon to see if the problem has resolved.  Think it's been easily 2 years since I last (and first) played it.

Only thing I can think of is maybe the files didn't download right...try uninstalling and reinstalling. That's a strange problem. I'm pretty sure Steel also plays the Steam version with no problems.

So I finally made it through Blighttown...hopefully I don't have to come back again this place sucks. Awesome boss though. I summoned that witch bitch to help and she fucked shit up. After that, I thought I fucked up bad. I went into Demon Ruins and was going to turn back and go to the bonfire to level up, but instead said eh fuck it and continued towards the big fire demon....oh shit bad move, this dude was taking about 75% of my life bar off just looking at him. So I'm like fuck this, I try running away but they blocked me from escape. Here I am thinking I'm dead and I just lost 30,000 SOULS....fuck it, CHARGE! I run up to the dude, stab him with 3 thrust attacks and one slash and HE DIES!

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!

I have no idea how I pulled that one off, but he died in literally 5 shots. Now I have doubled the souls.....badass. Not to mention he was guarding a sweet armor set.

Ceaseless Discharge was the boss name. I cannot believe I took him down in 5 swipes...I almost think it was a glitch.

Ceaseless Discharge can be one of the nastiest bosses in the game.  I had to learn to fight him properly and dodge his pound moves.  Apparently there are ways in which you can cheese him but I don't know if that's what you did.  Perhaps you happened to hold a weapon which worked wonderfully against him.

Fantastic game, unlike its sequel.

Playing Dark Souls 3, enjoying it a lot (and I mean a fucking lot) more than Dark Souls 2, but it feels like a greatest hits game. Like From Software having a circle jerk to themselves.

It's not so bad once you learn where the traps are.  And the boss is a total push-over.  Then get ready for Annor Londo!  The game's crown jewel!

What?! No way that is one of the most unique areas. Wish DS3 had something that cool.

I didn't appreciate the hidden bonfire in Sen's. Treking across that bridge 50 times was not fun.

Ok Tomb of the Giants is my least favorite area in this game. Blighttown was fun compared to this. Have to use a lamp to see 5 feet in front of me, and giant skelotons keep killing me before I find the fucking bonfire.
