What? When did I troll motion controls? The Wii was my main console for most of this gen because of motion controls. Just because I don't like using them with every game, or most FPS, doesn't mean I trolled them. Unless you're talking about waggle. Waggle deserves to be trolled.

A word of warning to Bioshock Infinite PS3 retail disk owers! You get a free copy of the original Bioshock on your Bluray disk. You cannot, however, play that game from the disk; it will install the entire 12GB game onto your hard drive, and it takes FOR-FUCKING-EVER to install. I started the install 10 minutes ago, and I'm only at 5% complete. At first, I thought my PS3 had locked up, but it did not. I could buy the game on PSN, download it, and install it FASTER than installing it from the Bluray disk. Seriously, WTF?

It took me about 45 minutes.

I picked up the PS Move Navigation controller today. It's much easier to use than holding a Dual Shock in one hand.

I have played this for about 5 hours now and I am not blown away but it is great. If I am to compare it to the original Bioshock I think the battles and atmosphere in the first was better at least to this point. So far most of the gun battles in Infinite have been against large crowds of enemies in large open spaces. I dont feel the powers are as effective since they are more crowd control based where in the first it was more for one on one battles. The first game had better pacing, new enemies would appear regularly plus you had the Big Daddys in the mix as well. It had the prep for battle moments where you could set traps and think of strategies. So far in Infinite enemies simply pop out and start a big gun fight where I find myself hiding behind cover and slowly popping out to shoot them almost CoD style because my vigor power runs out so fast. I can see the potential for epic battles when more powers, guns and skylines are involved but for now it doesnt feel as interesting as the first.

The pacing is off as well as there are some huge gaps in the action. I understand the need to get to know Elizabeth but come on give us a bit of action mixed in. I really dislike the decision to do the whole only two guns at time thing. I love the weapon wheel as it allows you to use what you want for each battle, it is the difference between you controlling a battle and you reacting to one. I also dont like the removal of stored health and magic healing items. It makes me feel like a scavenger, in the middle of a fight scavenging is not an option. Of course now you have a shield making it even more like Halo, I am starting to see why I am not as engaged as the first. Anyway I have yet to have a battle where I am using skylines, elizabeth and a bunch of powers so I am sure it gets much better.

The game is beautiful I must say and I do really enjoy the new setting. The story seems interesting, the themes are very strong. Basically you are in a city full of racist bastards so you run around killing them Django style, feel good game of the year! Elizabeth has been extremely impressive so far, she reminds me of a Disney princess who is wowed at the world. So full of innocence and child like wonder except instead of being in a Disney movie she is stuck in racist filled hellhole with a prince who brutally murders hundreds of people. The game comes alive when the two are talking back and forth making it much more interesting than the silent protagonist crap of the first game. I like the optional exploration, its crude and basic but at least it allows for something other than just moving forward.

I have played the game using the move and it works well enough. My biggest issue is the button layout which is horrendous, I dont know what moron decided on layout but fire him cause you aren't allowed to change it. I don't think its adding anything to the experience where many of the wii games were made with wiimote in mind so they make better use of it, I may go to a controller.

Its great so far but I think it wont be as great as the original was.

LOL Disney princess, indeed. The game was mediocre until you find her. She adds a great deal to the enjoyment of the game.

I'd sell the game before I'd go back to the controller.

The aiming is not a problem, I just cant do the vigors, the button placement drives me nuts. I dont do it naturally so I have to stop and think which is a no no in the heat of battle.

I didn't find Vigors to be any different to use with the controller. It's exactly the same as on Move, L1 and L2.

I'm charging my Move controller, so I tried to play with the DS3 again. No way. It ain't happening. I wasted so much ammo just trying to hit one enemy. I haven't seen FPS controls this bad since the Dreamcast days. I played some of the original Bioshock to see if I'm going crazy, but I had absolutely no problems with the default DS3 controls in that game. I was getting headshots without much difficulty too. I need a Move Charge Station. Sad

I did notice that it felt weird with the controller, I only tried it for a minute.

The only issue I have is with aiming.  It's not natural to press R3 to aim.  Everything we is fine.  I'm loving the atmosphere.

Is this how Infinite is supposed to be played? GASP

Because I don't play anything like that. I'm all about using cover, possessing gun turrets, setting traps, and trying to get as many headshots as possible. Not this crazy Spider-man nonsense..

Nah, I wasn't offended, GG. Just surprised by the joke, since I don't believe I have ever done that except for waggle, which aren't real motion controls anyway.

It was just an off the cuff joke, before I headed off to the emergency room, I wasn't really thinking about. I just remembered that you always played with analogue sticks and hated IR in FPS. Seriously, nothing meant behind it.

Oh, I can understand that, GG. No problem. Happy

BTW, I never hated IR in FPS. I just prefer dual-analogue since the camera is less wonky, and my arms don't get as tired. IR has some definite advantages in FPS, but I have only been able to play Bioshock with IR for an hour or so at a time because my arms would get so damned tired. LOL

You have to learn how to sit with IR. I found myself leaning foward a bit with the remote arm resting on my thigh. That way you do minimal subtle movements. I thought you like the aiming in Red Steel 2?

Yeah, that's pretty much how I use IR as well, except I use my chair's armrest. Unfortuantely, it requires you to sit in one position during the entire gameplay session. I like to sit back when I first start playing, but then move to the edge of my seat as the combat intensity increases. With IR and Move, the sensor bar and camera can't read the controller right when I change positions, and it throws the controls off. That's a big reason why I prefer a dual-analogue. I can sit anywhere I want, and it'll work just fine.

The aiming in Red Steel 2 was fine, probably the best use of IR on a Wii FPS, but what I really enjoyed about the game was the MotionPlus sword controls.
