Played some more, what can I say apart from saying that its ridiculously addictive.

When people say its like Harvest Moon crossed with Pikmin, its like they combined the best parts of both games. No back breaking HM farming but all the upgrades and buildings and cash elements. Pikmin gameplay only in a gorgeous persistent world, lots of characters and dialogue. Tons of comedic asides.

It's not the sort of game that will GASP wow you with some amazing moment where you flatten a boss and the whole world explodes. It's a game that will make you smile frequently and grin often. And it will do it persistently.

Revogamers review:

Don’t have any doubt: this is one of the games of the year because of its dedication, quality, talent and performance. Which has been perfectly polished at all points (except for the pointer, but it was deliberately), which offers a wide variety of reasons to play and which is suitable for everyone, absolutely every audience, including the fellow who watches while other plays.

For many people, strategy games are addictive, and they spend many hours playing until they squeeze their civilization. Others get bored by the slow pace and choose to directly play an adventure, passing over everything else. And this Little King's Story is giving small doses of the best of both genres in the exact order, making it a long, complex, varied, never repetitive and brain demanding adventure. This core is coated with a layer of artistic genius, one more of comedy, another one of great structure, and swims in a superb soundtrack, giving as a result a sensational videogame for anyone, who can play in long sessions or in little games. Essential.

9.5/10
It’s just amazing how such diverse elements come together in Little King's Story to form a uniform, robust, elegant, fun, playable and very, very addictive videogame. A “must have” for people of all ages and all tastes.

That's a neat little description.  I don't think there was a doubt that I'd eventually check this game out, but I will start paying a little more attention to it.

Okay played some more, beat this awesome boss, got some animal hunters which are archers basically.

Game is pretty damned cool, funny and big. This is a lengthy game indeed. I was challenged by the Oni boss. I've started building up the kingdom.

One thing I wanted to make absolutely clear was how user friendly this game is. When I say its like a first party title, I mean that in all respects. You know how Nintendo games, you dont need a manual, they walk you through things, it's never too complex, yet still yields deep and rewarding gameplay?

And forget about the SRPG moniker. If someone reccomends me a SRPG my face usually curls. Don't worry about that, its a very unique game and its not going to bust your balls in any way and there aren't a zillion things to remember.

The game is as easy to play as, say Pikmin, maybe slightly easier. It's relaxing and fun to play.

I was curious so I just went through all the reviews we've seen so far. The tally stands at:

11 triple AAA reviews - that score a 9/10 or higher

2 reviews (Eurogamer and GamesTM) 8/10 scores which still highly praise it

http://www.risingstargames.com/blog/little-kings-story-developer-interviews-part-1.html

Interview here. Nice that RS have started doing this. They are becoming the XSEED of Europe.

Anyhow this made me laugh a little.

5. How much influence did Nintendo's Pikmin have on the design of Little King's Story?

To be honest, the concept came from a totally unrelated place. Does it really look that similar? Really?

If you play it you'll understand that it really is a totally different game.

Having it compared to Pikmin really makes me happy though, because that's an excellent game.

Also, even though I've never met him in person, I have a lot of respect for Shigeru Miyamoto. I'd like to meet him and pick his brain.

LOL he's right in that once you've played a few hours it really becomes its own game and is different to Pikmin. But come one man, the game owes its basic gameplay system and controls to Pikmin so much you might as well credit Nintendo as a co-producer. They even used the same life circle bars for enemies. And overall Pikmin has better controls.

This is like the Dead Space guys saying that RE4 had no influence.

Play it nao!  Screw your assignments.  Delivering impressions to this thread is the only assignment you have as of right now.

Haha!  Games are for more important than Algebra and college degrees.  Look at me, I'm 27, I don't know how to do basic math and I never got my degree and I turned out... um... great!  Yeah!  Whoo!

There are only a few Europeans here and only I played the game. I'm a slow gamer, Madworld is suppossed to be 6 hrs if you listen to reviews but it took me a month to beat it. I'm 6 hours in LKS whilst the Gaffers are 20hrs in or so.

And since no one else here has it I've been posting a bit in the GAF thread.

I'm yet to reach the stage where the game opens up. After you beat the Oni King the whole game opens up into this epic 60 hr game with multiple kingdoms and princesses to catch and put in your tower.

There's only so long I can talk by myself Nyaa

Have no fear though, it's a great game. The only problem is the lighting. They very deliberatly over saturate the characters and certain buildings with a pronounced glow which gives the visuals a blurry effect.

"The visual style is certainly a big part of LKS's appeal. There's a soft sheen to everything, as if someone's smeared Vaseline over your telly. Cut-scenes look like moving oil paintings and tutorials are presented as chalk drawings on blackboards (note to younger readers: this is what teachers used in the olden days before it was all marker pens and holograms)."

I just beat the Oni King last night. So cool, after you beat him there is a Zelda like moment and you rescue this Princess. Then they upgrade your castle everyone rejoices and then you get a map from Pancho the cow. Turns out there are 6 more kingdoms, I just spent 6 hours in the first one so 6X6? Another 36 hours of awesome?

I now have an tower where my princess lives and for future princesses from conquered kingdoms. The town was celebrating, they laid down flowers in front of a photo of the Oni King. Game put a huge grin on my face last night.

This game is huge, its going to take hours upon hours to complete it. No worries about content here. I'm 8 hrs in with 1 kingdom down and 6-7 to go.

I ploughed into the next area, Sunflower fields. As you earn more cash merchants start giving you useful stuff like a cannon that can warp you about. Also you tend to think that the game missed this or that - only to discover that it's an upgradable feature later on.

It gets tougher too, fighting chickens is a pain and ther was this field where a kingly scarecrow was firing lasers at me. The game regenerates enemies so you have to plough on during the day. If you sleep, mostly everything resets, except the important stuff.

But, the map is crap. Really crap. But thankfully the visual design ensures that its not a big hassle to navigate.
