Federer screwing up nasty. He is in a 4 hour match with some dude.
Damn Kobe is sitting through the entire 4 hour match, hardcore. Oh Bill Gates is there too.
Finally over, Federer wins, epic battle.

Juan Martin Del Potro is better then "some dude" bro, he's won as many grand slams as Andy Roddick ... one
Woah ... Phelps. The greatest swimmer of all time, and then some. Outrageous number of medals.
I know he gets to keep the medals from using the suit that has since been banned, but do those records still stand? The ones from the last Olympics?
Not just for him I guess, since everyone was using those suits.

Yes, they let those records stand. They don't seem that outrageous now. Some have been broken in these games and many others got close.
Makes sense. They sanctioned the suit, so the records shoudl stand. I feel bad for the swimmers whose records were beaten with the suits though. But as you said, those records would have fallen this time around anyway.

For the other sports do you feel the bias was there in Bejing, Athens, Sydney etc too?
bugsonglass said:Another thing which annoyed me. One of the three British cyclists who won gold in the track race, admitted to deliberately falling off his bike to get the race restarted because he didn't get a good start. He said this in an interview, for the whole world to hear. They were not disqualified, their gold medal stands. How is that fair?
I don't feel good about that but I saw the explanation, it is within the rules to get a restart like that. His front wheel skidded and the bike wobbled about and under the rules they were entitled to a restart, I guess he had to make it look worse than it was to get the restart. You have to say, they did deserve to win, the restart was in the heats and they broke the world record in the final, they were the fastest.
What bothered me more was Pendalton getting disqualified in the duo cycling only to have china making the same infringement only worse in the final and instead of being disqualified from the rankings they were merely relegated to silver medal status. China and GB broke the world record 3 times between them in the heats, Germany gets gifted the medal. Joke.
I didn't see Thorpe at all tonight. Is he in the studio with Lineker or at the pool?

Studio.

I must've missed him. He only had Michael Johnson and Collin Jackson there
I'm glad the BBC got Thorpe to help with commentating on the swimming. He is very likeable and he knows his stuff. Also he is not full of hyperbole the way English commentators can be.
Michael Johnson has done commentary for track and field events etc for the BBC many times before. Apart from being a living legend, he is also immensely charismatic in the studio and his commentary is great. I'm always pleased to hear what he has to say.
The one I really don't get is John McEnroe. He comes and does Wimbledon for the BBC every year and I suppose he gets a hefty payday, but he is a bit out of place here. Just being smart-arse about everyone and talking about sports he knows no more about than I do. Bad call on the Mac. Okay for Wimbledon, but way out of place commentating on the Olympics

Yeah, that's not fashionable in Australia, Bugsy. For one thing only people with some sort of fashion sense wear a tie with their open suit (no one). But those that do (no one) have the good sense not to stick a mesh shirt over it.

To be fair to the BBC they haven't done this level of sports coverage for any event, it's wall to wall Olympics on BBC1 from morning till night, they've even had to draw in a news presenter to do some Olympics presenting. But yeah seeing McEnroe on the track team coverage is strange.
There is some bizaare goings on in the cycling. There is this mass race but there is this motorised cycle at the front which everyone has to stay behind, then everyone just sprints the final 2 laps once the cycle leaves the track. It's completely pointless they may as well make it a 2 lap race.
Now am I watching a race between two people, the guy at the front rides at 2 mph and looks over his shoulder whilst the rider behind moves at 1mph both watching each other like watching a fat kid next to pudding. This goes on for a couple of minutes, then eventually one of the makes a move and they pummel to the finish line as fast as possible. Again they might as well make it a 2 lap race as fast as possible without any of this nonsense.
It was just very blatant in the boxing, because it's perhaps the one sport where judges can muck about and there's precious little anyone can do. I didn't feel it so strongly in other sports. It doesn't apply to other Olympics because they Australians, Greeks, or Chinese didn't have boxers. Boxing in this Olympics was daylight robbery just so most all of the British boxers got through at least to the last few fights.
