A lot of films aren't on DVD let alone Blu-ray FFS.
And that's not to mention all the films that aren't on VHS, but that's irrelevent as a TV won't be much use to those I suppose.
Oh well, enjoy the future without a history.
Historical stuff will remain historical stuff, there will always be special cases for those. I am talking about the normal movies and TV programs on now, must everything is on HD stuff and everything else works on HDTVs so there is absolutely no reason to ever have an SDTV ever again.

Yup I cant wait to buy the Star Wars Saga again in 3D.

Stop backpedaling. We were specifically talking about old content like PS2 games and DVD movies you already own.

They all work on an HDTV and all new PS games and movies come out in HD now. Sony and all movie manufactures have moved on to HD, as everyone should. Obviously old things will remain in SD, not everything needs to be remade. But going forward everything should move into HD and soon no new products will come on in SD.

Stop talking and listen what is argued. Let me post it again. The problem was that old content looks like shit on the new TVs
So why do TV manufactures not get more shit from you? Because they know that some programs will be SD, they know people have content like games and old DVDs in SD. You can blame Nintendo for not having and foresight, but this does not require any foresight what so ever.

What are you supposed to do with old content, its OLD, it looks like shit. It looks like shit on an SDTV too, its shit cause its old. You cant do anything about it. Either go restore it or deal with the ugliness of the picture.
I have no clue what you are arguing, SDTVs do not make old videos look better. For some reason games have some allergic reaction to HD if its in SD, maybe cause of jaggies and such. I have never looked at a VHS on an HDTV and said "damn this looks worse than an SDTV", it looks better cause the TV is more clear. I have never seen a person keep an SDTV around for old stuff, that just makes no sense.
TV manufactures should never make an SDTV again, they need to start weeding them out and just make them exict. There is no reason at all to have an SDTV. Every single thing an SDTV can do an HDTV can do better. There is no content that only works on an SD set, so its totally pointless to ever make them again. They need to be gone.

Everything you said in this post is so.....
so.....
^ as usual nothing to argue so you just act like an ass.
Please name me one thing that does not work on an HD set that works on an SD one. Go try it, good luck.

That's BS. It's not just historical stuff. The amount in HD is more limited than you're saying here. It might suit your taste fine, but that's not true of everyone. However you're also saying it doesn't matter because SDTV stuff actually looks better on HDTV?
I'm now confused lol.
It's funny that you say jaggies are more visible etc. because so SD looks shit because HD remakes often result in a worse picture due to displaying graphics at a higher resolution than they were designed to look good in so you get a washed out, boring image etc...
Not everything actually looks better in HDTV, but that's a completely different argument anyway.

The majority of things look better on an HDTV and from now on almost all new media will be in HD. HD plays everything an SDTV plays. If you want to keep an old fart TV just so some crappy looking quality VHS or something might look a tiny bit better in your eyes, thats on you. There is no giant movement to preserve SDTV, there is no market for SDTVs outside of being a really really cheap TV. TV manufactures should not make anymore SD sets, it would be a horrible business decision to go backward and waste money on old tech. This is not like a VHS player or an old game system where you have to keep your old device cause the new ones wont play it, a TV plays everything, period. If you have bought new TVs, the only reason to ever keep an SD set is cause you are anal about picture quality.
Now it is up to all the other companies to make all NEW products HD, the TV manufactures have done their job already, HD has taken off and is becoming the standard. If Universal studios decided to refuse to make bluray movies and only do DVDs I would be shitting all over them too, they are refusing to move ahead with the new tech. Same with any game company. There is one company that refused to move ahead.. They deserve the shit they get for not realizing most gamers would all have HD sets by now, a stupid dumb decision by them. It is not on me to cater to the Wii, the Wii is supposed to cater to me. The Wii is not a DC, its not even a PS2, it came out in 2006 when HD was well into becoming the standard. New games are being released right now with outdated tech. I know the argument is that they made it cheap and it was a great buisness move, I am not asking them to make a whole new graphics chip, I dont mind the GC graphics. How much money could it cost to just allow the games to run in 720p? How hard is that to do? My old Xbox did it and that came out in 2001.
In the end I dont care anymore, I am used to the Wii. Its your backwards view that has me confused. Your guys view is all backwards trying to blame the people and companies that are moving forward with tech that its their fault that they don't cater to the companies that refuse to move forward.
How much money could it cost to have HDTVs display a SDTV image without fucking it up? There is no backwards logic except blaming one company for making a shit decision, when it's more than just Nintendo fucking you over.
And of course there's no movement to preserve SDTVs because people are fucking retarded and don't realise what this results in, then get all pissed off when they realise old shit is hard to get to work. Mass stupidity is not a good excuse for something.
How are TV manufactures fucking me over, they are giving me the best available tech in which all media is playable on it. Again they are doing their job of moving forward, Nintendo is not.
Are you asking for a SD mode, a TV that can revert to SD for certain stuff. Is that even possible? And you do realize the SD stuff looks like crap on an SD set as well right? Its SD, its ugly. The only media product that I have seen that actually has issues with HD are SD video games. I have SD programing on tv, I have seen VHS on an HD set, no difference from an SD set, it looks fine.
"they are giving me the best available tech in which all media is playable on it."
"The only media product that I have seen that actually has issues with HD are SD video games."
FFS lol. Playable but looks like shit, what's the point?
A company's job is to make money, not to push tech forward. Nintendo made money. The product didn't suit you? Then you don't buy it. You're blaming Nintendo for making something you didn't like, okay it sucks cause you wanted Wii in HD, but Nintendo has no responsability towards you or the betterment of humanity.
It's not even like the 360 (which you bought and are loving, which is great!) where Microsoft released a faulty, poorly made product. Nintendo did nothing ethically wrong with the Wii, it just didn't suit your needs. You can't blame Nintendo for not pandering to your taste.
"Are you asking for a SD mode, a TV that can revert to SD for certain stuff. Is that even possible?"
Why would it not be if it's possible through converters and a whole lot of other shit? Plus monitors have no problem with supporting a range of resolutions and letterboxing etc., though I suppose that's where video cards come in. I don't really know, but the assumption would be that it is possible, but might be expensive.
Also the Wii U is exactly the same as the Wii. It's current gen technology being released as a next gen console. It has HD, so what? By the time it comes out much higher resolutions might be the standard, though probably not, becasue console and television technlogy moves so slowly, and rarely push technology forward in any way.
I know Nintendo made a profit, I know consoles wont have all features I want. The problem is you guys are putting the blame of having the games look bad on the player not the console. Your view is backwards. Its not up to us to get a different TV to make the games look ok, it was up to Nintendo to do so. The result is that most Wii games will look ugly to the majority of gamers. That was Nintendo's choice, not our choice.

But I'm not blaming anyone for Nintendo's choice. What was their choice? Make a console that outputs at 480P. I never said gamers chose to release the Wii as a 480P console because I am not quite that stupid. The thing is you cannot blame Nintendo for your own actions. It is your choice to play your Wii on an HDTV instead of an SDTV. You cannot blame Nintendo for how you use their product.
Lol, have fun re buying games and movies you already have because they look crap on your TV. Next time you can rebuy them again, but then in 3D. And after that you can buy it yet again in ultra HD. I guess some people like to be milked dry.
