Iga WW ocean was incredible. The sense of exploration was unmatched, every single grid area on that map had something to do. Battleships would attack you, sea monsters would pop out, it was awesome stuff. I would say it easily has the best 3D overworld and the best overworld since Alttp.

Every single gird had just one stupid little island. The rest is just blue sea and boredom and it took you way to long to get anywhere. You could literary go downstairs and make yourself a cup of tea and drink it by the time you are back you still have not reached your destination. Windwaker had the worst and most boring overworld of all 3D Zelda's.

The battleships were meh because you could not sail and fight at the same time. The octopus was cool I give you that.

Each and every single grid had things to do. Yeah like in one 1% of the area of the grid, the rest is nothing. Just boring sailing. You cold actually put all the content of the whole overworld in a single grid. The game would have been so much better that way.

I agree with both of youse guys.

There was a lot to see, but it was a butt numbing wait to traverse it all.

IMO Twilight Princess has the best overworld.

IMO Xenoblade has the best overworld.

Fixed that for great justice. Monolith should design the overworld in the next Zelda

I completed the first "fetch quest". They give you a nice large area to just mess around with, I loved it. It wasn't much of a fetch quest to me since I found what I was looking for as I explored before it became an assignment.  The way the world is laid out is totally different from any Zelda, it feels pretty damn cool. The sky stuff still disappoints me.

There are bird enemies that literally poop on you as their attack. A cartoon shit comes out of them and if it lands on you you get a brown stink cloud around you.

Vader do you get a Metroid Prime like feeling when exploring the 'underworld'? The room with the giant tree felt like that level with the giant tree in Prime 1.

P.S. the birds never took a dump on me, because I do not take shit from anyone!

Okay played the game some more.

I decided to take a break from the so called fetch quest and went back up to Skyloft to upgrade my weapons. I found that to upgrade the shields I had, I needed an item that was in Faron woods. I decided to go back there and explore a bit, get some items and catch some insects. When I reached the open area where you had that 'fetch' quest, I found two areas I could not enter yet. I also found that I cannot climb the giant tree in the middle yet and there was a bombable wall. I had bombs so I could open that wall.

So I went on and found the stuff I was looking for. Don't let anyone say otherwise, the upgrade system is cool. The shields last a whole lot longer when you upgrade them. Also the potion upgrade is very handy. I actually needed it during my visit to the third dungeon.

What I noticed when I explored the forest was denseness of it all. Everything has a function, The mushrooms can be cut and you can capture the spores. Insect can be caught. Tree can be shaken to drop loot.Fruit can be dropped from trees, signs can be cut.  Even stuff like birds, tumble weed and dust have a function in the game.

I was a bit to premature in my anger of the third fetch quest. It was a very clever one with  clever puzzles. You will learn to use the map in new ways. I won't spoil more. The 3rd dungeon had clever puzzles and had some crazy design. And the boss fight oh my god the boss fight, sooooo good.

I had some serious issues with my desynching of the golden wiimote near the end. It was weird. Slashing worked, one-to-one movement worked with a slight offset, but noting major. Even aiming worked, but guess what did not work? You know when you are climbing and you can waggle your wiimote to get link to jump like a monkey so you can even climb faster? Yeah that did not work a few times. So I recalibrated my wiimote for it to work and few minutes later it did not work anymore. Also during the calibration process you need to point at the screen with IR, but that worked really iffy. Maybe I need to recalibrate my sensor bar. And if that does not work I will try wiimote and motionplus.

I can definitely see how people would find the sailing boring. Meh, I loved it. Was nice and relaxing like actual sailing, and you bumped into an octopus, battleship or new island often enough so that it never had a chance to become boring.

I am at the first dungeon and so far I am still trying to get used to this new kind of Zelda. Iga I dont think the surface feels like Metroid, it kind of feels like Mario 64 kind of playground areas strung together. They are rather big areas and you are basically looking for stuff, traversing the environment and battling enemies while you do. So far its been simple stuff, I am sure it can get far more complex. Though is that as good as losing a true overworld, so far no, I miss that feeling of stepping out into the overworld for the first time. I am worried that I will never get that feeling of finding Lake Hylia, or seeing the summit of Death Mountain.

The sky has me scared, I really hope there is a lot more too it than what we have at the start. I found this new system in place where you find blocks down on the surface that unlock treasures in the sky. That helps make the sky a bit more interesting to explore, kind of reminds me of the kinstone system in Minish Cap. Still I was waiting for something like WW, I don't see it.
I am still feeling out cause they seemed to have removed a lot of elements I hold dear. The combat and feel of Link with his new agility is awesome. I really enjoy the upgrade system, I think it gives rupees importance and I like the idea of collecting material to upgrade. So it has great new mechanics.
At this point in TP I have to say that I enjoyed TP more, I also think the first dungeon of TP is better than the first dungeon of this game. Lets see how that changes as I have heard that this game doesn't really begin to take off into many hours in. The game sort of treats you like a little kid, I know its a Nintendo trait to really make sure the player never gets lost but man it just feels like I am playing a game not meant for someone my age at times. Zelda is for the whole family but it does not need to be this hand holding. I can see why this game doesn't seem relevant to my generation anymore and its not just cause its on a system with bad graphics, its cause this game feels like a kids game. I don't mean it in a sense that it needs blood and attitude, most Nintendo games pull off that Pixar kind of vibe where it fits for kids but doesn't insult adults, so far this game doesn't feel like that.

I'm in the Skyview Temple, and just I started battling the boss when my batteries died. Argh!

I'm loving the game so far.

EDIT: Found some batteries, and the 1st boss has been defeated. Time for bed.

I know what you're saying Vader.  I felt like I've been made to stop every five seconds so that Fi can explain everything to me.  Enough already!  At least let me speed through the texts.  I'm very early into the first dungeon and decided to stop.  It's getting late and I want take my sweet time in there.  

The overworld is ...odd.  Not in a bad way, but it'll take some getting used to.  I thought this game would remind me of WW, but I'm getting more of a MM vibe in the overworld.  It seems to turn the conventional overworld on it's ear.  It's confusing as hell, but I sure I'll get accustomed. Majora did that to me as well.  Don't get me wrong, I do love the game so far, but it's certainly an odd bird in the Zelda series.

It's funny, I have to stop and think about how to tackle every enemy now.

A few things:

  • We KNEW it was going to be lite on the challenge side but a bit heavier on puzzles... especially puzzles using motion plus. That's why everyone was so thrilled to see the Second Quest with the Hard Option. I think the creative combat kind of makes up for it though! The motion controls add a different kind of challenge to the game. It may be easy to kill the enemies... once you figure out HOW to hit them... but that's often the trick. The Boblockins (or whatever they are called) BLOCK. The Plants have to be struck in a certain way. That's not always easy to surmise.
  • I --REALLY-- don't like the Bird Controls. I just can't seem to get the hang of 'em! Did they REALLY have to get all fancy and add the wind current thing to the flight? I just seem to sink and sink and never seem to be able to GAIN altitude! It reminds me of the flight in Mario 64. Yuck.
  • I like the ability to upgrade things A LOT! Nothing's worse than getting owned by an Octorock after your shield breaks. Once I saw there was a better shield option, I HAD TO explore the town at night to get the Monster Claw! I know finding materials and upgrading equipment is going to add A LOT of time to my gameplay!
  • I am in the Deep Woods right now; just got the slingshot before going to find the Monster Claw. I guess I haven't been in my first, proper dungeon yet.

Gently shake the Wii Remote up and down, simulating the bird's wings flapping, and you'll gain altitude, Leo
