I'm about 3/4 of the way done. 3rd General of the 3rd Crime Boss. Just finished infiltrating a Tower, a Bio Lab, and am assaulting an Expo Centre at the moment. I am shocked at two things: (1) I thought the game was going to get pitifully easy as my Agent got to be super-powered. I don't know if it's the difficulty I am playing on, or the game is just smart enough --BUT-- it's been challenging the whole way through so far! (2) I find myself NOT caring about the vehicles or driving AT ALL. When I first saw the game, I (for some reason) was enamored with the way the vehicles morphed; now I couldn't care less!

I am 4-Star in Explosives, Agility, and Strength. I am 3-Star in Guns, and only 2 in Driving. I've had no motivation whatsoever to compete in ANY of the Agility or Driving races, nor have I even tried to collect the different cars in the game for my garage!

Even though the game formula hasn't changed at all each battle is just as much fun (if not more) than the last! Climbing the Tower, hiding behind Divider Walls, popping out to lob grenades, then picking up the grenades of the dead to continue was a LOT of fun! Likewise was storming the Bio-Lab. I wasn't expecting the appearance of the "Freaks" especially since two physical blows from them usually means death. It actually got to the point when I would see one lumbering after me on all fours, I started to "freak" out a little bit! Fun stuff!

I am hoping to finish the game, though, in the next day or two!

I've been finding it so much fun and I think the reason is the way Realtime Worlds handled the saves.

Unlike any other open world game (except inFamous, which did the same thing), any progress is being recorded.  You could spawn, shoot one guy, die and your shooting ability will still keep that EXP that you earned.  As opposed to in GTA where you can go on a 25 minute mission, acheive the mission and then accidently flip a boat and die before getting back to the start point and you have to do the whole thing over.

The bottom line is, even when tooling around, you know you are contributing to your overall status.

I am not playing on difficult, I am playing on the default "tough".  I have found the third island to be pretty challenging up until recently. I've maxed out my strength, have 3 Star 40+ on agility and 3 star 60+ on weaponry, 3 star 40+ on explosives (and like you said driving doesn't matter).

I have found the key to making the game easier, particularly in getting hte generals is to:

1. Understand how to get through the boss level to the actual boss.  You may die a few times figuring it out, but the toughest part is generally figuring out where they are within their buildings and how to get to them.  Only 2 out of the 14 I've bagged required anything other than just running up to them and killing them a bunch.  Once you have done this and you re-spawn basically run and jump to them as fast as possible, forgetting about the goons.

2. The Russian weapon that that launches a grenade (it makes a "phompt" sound when you fire it) has been key to me killing them.  Their health regenerates if you take too long to kill them.  So I R1 to target them and then spam them with that weapon, then with greandse when I run out of ammo.

I've been using that weapon as my secondary for general gameplay along with one of the assault rifles as a primary.

Anyhoo, I won't be able to play for the next 2 days, which bums me out.

EDIT: If you are talking about the lab on the third island (near the save point Comfortorium Inc.) that is the one I just beat too.

While playing in the middle difficulty level, if you are at level 48 in guns, for example, and you have it half way filled up to 49...

...which you can tell by the gauge below the Level and Star Numbers...

...IF you die, that meter gets knocked back down to zero for that level!

The only meter that doesn't reset when you die is Agility. This is most likely done because you get Agility from the Orbs, rather than your actions, and replacing that would be very difficult!

_______________

I was using a Rocket Launcher for my secondary for most of the game. First it was the Sniper Rifle, then came the Rocket Launcher. On the Third Island though, I got a HOMING Rocket Launcher that comes equiped with 15 Rockets! Now THAT'S handy!

^Yeah, I got that one too, but I find the Russian one better (not the rocket launcher but the Grenade thingee) because it puts some arc on the projectile -- which results is less blow-back when you use it in tight quarters.

Thanks for your insights on the skills accrual. I'll have to pay more attention to that.

HOLY CRAP! I JUST KILLED THE BOSS OF SHAI GEN WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING WHO IT WAS ! ! !

I climbed his Tower and took him out with 3 of his generals left!

I guess I just kill the remaining 3 now and that's it!

I was wondering about that -- since he is the second one that unlocks in that region -- I was hoping if you killed him before the others there would be enough chaos that you'd get a credit roll.  Man I wish I could play it today.

That Tower battle was HARD (and fun!) AS HELL, though!

You have to creep in a side door, climb about 20 stories of Armed Goons with Rocket Launchers...

...and get to the Rooftop of that really, really TALL Tower!

That Homing Rocket Launcher came in really, really, REALLY handy in the Final Battle with Wang!

wink

I'm currently struggling with Wang, but I'm finding it a bit hard.

But seriously, that is the one I am currently on, I can get in there no problem, I go around the back (oh boy), anyway, I go around the back of Wang's complex and push my way in pretty fast (eyeroll), but am having trouble finishing (oh boy) him off.

I always end up going down (jeez) at the last minute.  I guess I should hold off and try one of the other generals for now.

Oh hey, Leo, when you finished off Wang and the boss of Sheng Whatever, was your agility level? I'm currently around 3 star 60 on agility.

And...

So I've noticed throughout that my character has been growing hari and aging -- I assume that is from the genetic experimentation that lead me to what I am -- do they do anything with that plot wise?

Also,

as epic as this thread is, may I humbly suggest that when you start each game you give it it's own thread so it's easier to find later for reference?

*giggle!*

I find when it came to Wang, approaching innocently, without any expectations, was the best way to get in there and finish the jerk off!

I must admit, between my 4-Star Agility and my HUGE weapon, which curved appropriately and seemed to seek him out wherever he went, I barely got within feet of him before he went down like the whore he was!

I tend to get lucky very often, so if you find YOU are having trouble swallowing Wang, you may want to do a few more guys before taking him in on!

There is absolutely no plot advancement in the game and even the ending is like: "Um. Was that it? Was that the ending?"

Your Agents definitely DO change as they advance, but no explanation is given whatsoever!

___________

Edit: I guess I shouldn't say that there's no plot at all. There's something in the ending speech (done by the dude who's been yacking at you the entire game) that I suppose was supposed to be all mysterious... but I didn't "get" it. I just listened to it and went: "Huh?" I may/may not look into CrackDown 2 (it's not supposed to be as good as the first) and see if there's a continued "story" line.

I've thought about doing that, but then decided against it.

This thread was never going to be about individual games. It was going to be about my personal experience with the 360 System as a whole and its (back) catalogue of games.

I never expected to get so many games so quickly --AND-- complete so many games. I just thought I was going to tinker with a few of them here and there like I usually do.

I wasn't planning on focusing on any ONE game in too much depth.

The guys here tend to gravitate towards newer releases and usually NOT on the 360. If I started making a lot of little threads here and there, I feel I would clutter the forum and wouldn't get much of a response anyway.

You can discuss any game I mention in here freely and I'll respond to any questions on games I may have finished, but I plan on moving quickly from one to the next and posting somewhat abbreviated impressions of what I play as I go.

I was even originally going to make this a Blog, but decided a Forum Post would lend itself more to OTHER people sharing their experiences with the system and wanted to leave it open for more discussion.

Know what I mean?
